People tend to romanticise foreign countries by saying the people there appreciate the important things in life, or are happier with what they have, or generally lead simpler lives that aren’t based on rushing around, checking your email 20 times a day and being so career oriented. What do I think? At the start of this adventure I was larger than life. Everything became more intense and less commonplace. Life was vibrant, I was constantly learning. There is this feeling, like being in a magic bubble and watching the iridescent sides of that confine shimmer before it implodes; that would have been on my return home. Back in the UK, I would wake up every day feeling pushed for time. Rushing to get to work, rushing home from work. I lived to work. In travel though, ... read more

For mum.... If I took a little minute to write a poem for you It would turn into a lifetime for all the things you do…. So I’ll try and keep it simple There’s some things I wish to say And what better day to say them on Today on mothers day In all my life you guided me And showed me right from wrong Your are my inspiration mum You’re the music in my song You were there for me when times were hard You always close at hand You guided me to happiness You’re the best mum in the land I never could repay you You’re worth your weight in gold If ever I would need you mum Your hand is there to hold Your advice is always listened to But you always have ... read more

The day had arrived when we had to leave the safety on India, place we got to like a lot and we got to know how it works there. It felt a little bit like starting the travels all over again, going to a new country. Different time zone, different currency, different language, different people... A little scary but it turned out it could only get better! :) As an inseparable part of our travels, I got really sick the morning we were leaving Digha and spent just as awful day being extra sick on a bus and on a plane. Of course, the day when I got better, Davy got sick too but I guess we are getting use to it and we are sightseeing even when we are sick and we are getting better ... read more

Last night we had two new foods that I thought I'd share with you 1) Putu Bambu - A must try! It is a mix of rice flour, palm sugar, salt and pandan leaves. The items are placed inside bamboo and steamed, then finished with coconut and eaten hot, delicious. RM2.50 for 5 2) Roti banana - generally a south asian bread made from stoneground wholemeal flour. Roti is sometimes referred to as "Kolcha" in Indian cuisine and its thinner variant, known as chapati. Basically, whatever you want to call it, it was delicious and served with bananas. Love to all xxx ... read more

I figured it was another great time for reflection. Although I am slowly beginning to settle here in KL, I know there's more to come. I've yet to find a place to live; guesthouse living takes its toll on you. However, I have spent the last few weeks with Maher, so no more dorm rooms. Our relationship is growing stronger by the day and I think it's because of having him here that I have settled in so well. When you are so far away from family, it's good to have someone you know you can always rely on, someone to share the happy memories with and someone to be there, just to listen. Some days I sit and reflect on times gone by; I've come to realise that all anyone wants is validation, love, security, ... read more

Last time we posted a trip report, we were in the fantastic rice terraces of Banaue. The bus ride back to Manila was rather interesting. The roads in this area are quite curved and we were pleased with the fact that they had built a one way traffic road to Manila. Well, we were happy until we found out that it wasn’t a one way street. Our driver reminded us of a clone of our driver (Mad Max) in Vietnam. It was rather impressive what he got away with. He was overtaking an uncountable number of vehicles by passing a full drawn line into a steep curve with absolutely no overview. When you add the darkness it was a miracle that we didn’t crash into something. Well, let’s conclude that we were happy to reach Manila ... read more

I thought I'd do another post; although the 'backpacking' has finished...for now. I'm really enjoying life in KL and have settled in well. The people here are friendly, the culture very different and the food, well, repetative :-) We spend most evening around Merdeka Square, where there is always some type of event on. Little like a mini party in the park. This weekend, we are taking the night train from KL Sentral out of the city and into the hills. We are on a volunteering programme to help clean a cave. We are staying overnight and come back saturday evening. Something a little different :-) Not much else has happened. I work daily 11-7 and the job is great. I'm truly loving it. My colleagues are great. We have a girl from the Phillipines, A girl ... read more

We have landed in Malaysia smack bang in the middle of China town for 2 nights, due to Jess's eagle eye on accomodation here. We were expecting to just pass through Kuala Lumpur but thankfully we went out today and explored. Kuala Lumpur is a mixture of colonial buildings and new age sky scrapers cutting thorugh the clouds, including the amazing Petronas Twin Towers. The place also has a great cultural mix of people and our ears pricked up at the mention of there being a Little India here. After seeing the Twin Towers we were treading concrete in search of Little India and the only thing in my mind was South Indian Thali for lunch. In india this is a lunch time feed that consists of a mound of rice and a selection of chutney's, ... read more

It's been a while since I have posted on here, so I thought I would give a little status update. On my return to KL from Australia I set about applying for jobs. I came lucky and after a few days I attended an interview at an eCommerce company in Dang Wangi. I was offered the job there and then. And am now the Manageress of the Malaysia Office. The company is on the 20th floor of the building and is full serviced with housekeeping and has a view of KL Tower to one side and the Petronas/Twin Towers to the other. I am working 5/6 days 11am -7pm. Next on the list is the apartment hunting and then me and Maher can start to settle properly. I'll update again soon But for now I'm a ... read more
