WOW, I'm officially six citites behind on my blogging, so I'll be keeping the next few short and sweet! HIGHLIGHTS! I've been up to some pretty amazing craziness in the last few weeks! I headed over to Borneo for about a week and knew I wanted to divide my time between jungle-riffic touring and underwater splendor. My first stop was the sleepy mountain and coastal town of KK where I decided to venture into my first hostel staying experience! There was a highly recommended place, the North Cabin Borneo hostel, and for about $7/night, how can you go wrong? Right away I loved it, I went right out to join the group on the patio - its so fun to walk into an instant party! They had all been there a few days and they told ... read more

Alrighty, better late than never. I thought the best way to save my Borneo photos was to upload them now. When I get the chance, I'll up load some of the emails I sent though to everyone whilst I was there, journaling my journey. The short of it is though.... Borneo is an amazing place & I loved every second of it! The people are so friendly and it hasn't been over-run by tourists.... yet. I would definitely go back. I've thrown out all of the clothes I took with me... after 3 washes, the smell of the Kinabatangan river still doesn't come out. We were so lucky to have such an awesome tour group! If I could go back to any place in particular, it would have to be Kota Kinabalu! Fingers crossed I get ... read more

Riktig semester liksom. Gjorde inte sa mycket annat an just det. Jo, det forstas. Jag (Josephine) fick en slang av turistdiarre med tillfoljande krakning. Harligt. Dukoralen ar en bluff. Fungerar hittills bra for ... read more

Well here we are in Malaysia, we left on the 16th and landed in Kuala Lumpa were we spent the first 5 days. KL is an impressive city with some amazing buildings, and despite the fact that i am not a “city person” i actually really like KL. We spent the first 2 nights in a very nice (expensive) hotel right next to the Petronas Towers. The view from our window on the 23rd floor out over the city was great, we actually went to sleep with the curtains open so we could look out at the millions of lights! OK i know its probably really boring but we HAVE to tell you about the breakfasts in this place, they are buffet style with about 6 different 'food stations' to choose from, cooked English breakfast, cooked ... read more

Day 210 (21.10.07) After a great night's sleep, we all woke pretty early to find that to our huge disapointment England had lost the rugby, oh and that every move we made was extremely painful! After our big climb the aches had truly arrived and any walking hurt - stairs were agony! After packing, we joined Anna and Kathryn for some breakfast at the cafe before catching a minibus back to Ranau where we were going to use the internet and catch the bus back to Kota Kinabalu. There are a lot of other things to do at Poring including the canopy walkway which we were planning to do, however a tree had fallen in a recent storm which had destroyed half of the walkway (and we weren't sure if we cold manage the walking element ... read more

Day 200 (11.10.07) After not enough hours of sleep we were up at 6am as suggested and knocking on the owners door! He soon told us that there were no tickets to where we wanted to go for about 2 days as it was the end of Ramadan and lots of people are travelling to be with their families. Bugger! We didn't have the time to wait 2 days for a bus and had visions of being stuck here so grabbed a taxi to the bus station (another one conveniently located about 6km out of town) in the hope of being able to grab a couple of spare spots. No luck unfortunately but we did manage to get some tickets for the night bus later in the day, a good result which meant that we would ... read more

I was woundering on what to give the title of my next travel write up but cant find to name it as I went along brushing through places that I would think best to visit I remembered that the city of Kota Kinabalu came in varies of names in its past. What use to be known as Jesselton, Api -Api, Deasoka and singga mata is today shorten to be known as KK after Kota Kinabalu. Looking at the back ground of Kota Kinabalu at one time it was known as API-API after the avicenna tree which was abundant around costal kota kinabalu another theory came also from the bajau people which was at the time of the british administration which was burnt down by our local Mat Salleh. Which ever it was no one can say ... read more

Our second visit to Kota Kinabalu was simply to overnight before catching the ferry to Brunei. The bus from Sandakan had been tediously unairconditioned - based on our bus experiences so far, I can only assume Malaysia's reputation for ice-cold aircon comes from the Peninsula as it's been rather lacking in Sabah. Other constants have been that a meal ticket is usually included in the price whether you want it or not, and the prices we've been charged have been over the odds. We've successfully challenged a couple of attempted rip-offs where we either had local info as to the correct price or it's been printed up on a piece of paper, but other times we've just had to suck it up when the ticket guy wouldn't back down, even when he had no leg to ... read more
