A capture of one of the homes in the village with the mountain behind which was our route to work to climb to get to the source of the river...

After 2 days at Borneo Paradise Resort chilling out…..well trying, as we had to use that opportunity to clean clothes and get ready for our next project - sort food rations and tools etc… Anyway we headed to Miruru for the community Phase: a small village about a 5 hour drive south of Kota Kinnabalu. The Village had little running water and a few houses with no electricity so we were there to build a “Water Gravity feed System’ from the source of the river 4km away into the village. The project was challenging and a lot of hard work but very rewarding. The Villages spoke Dusan as their first language and Malay second and very little English so they were not familiar with white people and were very shy when we arrived. We soon changed that by organizing a sports day, teaching in the school and going out and playing sports with them. They were the friendliest and kindest people I think I’ve ever met but then since I arrived in Borneo I can honestly say every Sabahan has proved that so far. This experience proved challenging with plenty of ups and downs, pooing in a 6 ft pit

with a snake and maggets and running to the shower everyday before anyone else so teh water didnt run out on you and living breathing, eating, sleeping all in one room for three weeks.... but one to treasure and for even the coldest person you couldn’t help but feel so much warmth by Miruru and touched by the villagers of Miruru!!
