little island on west coast of malaysia. stayed in georgetown. quite a big town - another chinatown again, similar things as seen before, but it feels quite comfotable here. met up with a friend of mine from germany, dirk. great history behind how this island became known as penang, taken over by the british, etc. went up penang hill for some great views of the island while being overtaken by mist. cheated by going up the cable car tho! well, it had been thundering & lightning & we were still aching from the jungle!!!

spent a day & night at Batu Ferringhi - nice little beach area not far from georgetown - good to have a bit of a break from the hard life of big cities & jungles!

great night food markets, lots of fab things to try around penang.

strange foods in malaysia so far...
most food tends to be savoury, but somehow also sometimes little bit sweet!
dessert - cendol with meants again, icecream & strange other veg! karen had some concoction taking of tcp, with sweetcorn & other stuff. very peculiar!! also a drink with kidney beans, red beans, ginger, lychees & very sweet!!

coffee or tea always comes hideously sweet, mixed with condesed milk! yuk! but loving the fresh fruit juices of all kinds of wild & wonderul fruit.
