The Cameron Highlands was great cause it was soo much colder. A bit like home. It was the first time we could wear jeans and there was no mossies thank god. We're sick of being bitten! It's the biggest farming area in Malaysia and supplies Singapore aswell. We visited a rose garden which was amazing. There were thousands of different types of flowers. Then there was the tea plantation were the pickers only get paid 22 sen per kilo that's like 5 cent or something crazy like that! The tea is lovely though. Owned by some scottish family who live in KL. We also went to a strawberry farm were we had the most unreal strawberry milkshake, a bee farm, a market were we bought some delicious fruit and then we just kinda hung out the rest ... read more

So the football (fa, not the crappy champo), what a game it was, I spent 9+ hours in an Irish bar owned by a German, eating English food and awaiting the feast of goals. I did so well to avoid English cuisine, but a cheese burger and Scampi and chips just called out to me (it gave me the shits - bloody western food). Potter has also decided after numerous English breakfasts failed to meet the desired quality level, to return back to the rice and meat routine. The morning before the final we went sea kayaking, and even ventured into some stunning sea mangroves on the Krabi coast. This was the seen for another attack by monkey’s. They leapt off the trees around us onto our Kayak, of course with monkey - human relations not ... read more

Ok so since the last time a lot has happened….. Best place to start is the beginning…. Ha Ha Ha Before we left Koh Phangan we had a great day out, it started with hiring a scooter in the morning, no helmets provided, and our safety clothing was shorts, T-shirt and sandals, really safe. So we set off to find a waterfall, after the disappointment of the first waterfall we visited in Chiang Rai. Everything was going fine, even though the roads were the most winding and steep we’ve ever seen. The road to the waterfall is also called “the most dangerous road ever built in Thailand” that’s what the locals say anyway… and you can trust them on that. Basically the road turned from being tarmac to concrete to sand!!! And even steeper and Jamie ... read more

05.05.06 Up at 8.30am, packed had breakfast (she gave us extra toast and fruit because she liked us) and caught our bus at 11am to the Cameron Highlands. (Andy thought he was going to an island!! No highland!) A couple of days ago we started to check out the bus timetables to the Highlands so we had an idea of what time we had to be at the bus station, as you do. We found that there were about 4 companies that do the trip and guess what? We must have chosen the oldest, slowest bus to get on out of all the ones on offer. So much for our research then! So were a little annoyed. But later we were very grateful as the roads up to the Cameron Highlands are very bendy and high. ... read more

I did it. I left Nazri Camp... It was sorta sad to go but in a way it felt good. It was hardest for some reason, for all of us, to say goodbye to Sakke. Maybe because you could see how much he didn't want to leave. Poor Sakke, going back to reality after 1 1/2 years of travelling... Ouch! Anyway, I'll really miss everyone there; Adek, Rozie, Sakke, Johan, Netty, Jah, Ila, Lee and all the others. Thanks for your hospitality and making us all feel at home in Teluk Nipah. Your always welcome in Canada if ever you make it there one day... maybe a future gathering in my future cottage? LOL I left yesterday afternoon with Maria to come to Cameron Highlands. What a beautiful place. The scenery is amazing, mountain tops above ... read more

After furlough from 1964 to 1965, I returned to Bangkok, Thailand where Dalat School had been evacuated to that Spring. I attended the Fall semester. Bangkok was hot and humid, and the air conditioning couldn't keep up with dorm rooms that had two triple deck bunk beds in them. By the time the Spring semester started, Dalat School found new home at the Eastern Hotel in Tanah Rata in the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia. This had also been a hill station for British colonialists to get away from the heat and humidity of the lowlands. Only these highlands were very humid; so much so that the school had to send the laundry down to mountain to dry. The Cameron Highlands had a very British Smoke House Restaurant and the Cameron Highlands Hotel with a nine hole ... read more
