Friday, 19th September 2014 I signed up for a day tour through my guesthouse to cover a couple of places around the Cameron countryside. As it was raining the night before, I was praying hard that the rains would not repeat itself as we drove towards the highest point on the highlands, the Gunung Brinchang (2,032m). Along the way, our rover paused for a photo-taking break at the Boh Tea Plantations where the guide gave a brief introduction of the tea harvesting processes. I loved tea plantations as it gave a peaceful outlook against the backdrop of rolling hills in the countryside. The scenary was featured again and again in the travel literature that I came across while researching for this trip. It was nice to picture myself within the wide green expanse against the clear ... read more

Friday, 19th September 2014 My visit to the Time Tunnel Museum was part of the one day tour that I had signed up which also covered a few other places in the highlands. This was an excellent museum dedicated to our past located halfway between the town of Brinchang and the Boh Tea Plantations. The museum charged a modest admission of RM5 and there were no other charges on the use of photography equipment. This was money well-spent given its sheer display of exhibits and artefacts from yesteryears. My visit to the Time Tunnel was timely, as it evoked plenty of fond memories of my childhood that I was once familiar with. Artefacts such as the Dumex milk powder and the soft drinks that we drank as kids as well as the many hours we spent ... read more

This morning we checked out of our hotel early and stored our bags with the front desk to pick up again before we caught the bus back to Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon. Our main goal for the day was to see the BOH Palas Tea Plantation and Factory and to purchase some world class tea. The tea plantation is actually in Brinchang, the town next to Tanah Rata where we spent the night, so we hired the same taxi driver we got yesterday to take us to the plantation. He was a great driver to hire because both his grandfather and father worked on the plantation as tea pickers. Our taxi driver was able to teach us a lot about the tea process because he knew it first hand - he grew up as a ... read more

We set out on an afternoon tour of the Cameron Highlands, costing 50RM each. We started at the Mossy Forest on Gunung Brinchang. We walked through the moss-covered trees and moss-formed walkways, looking at cup-like pitcher plants and caking our shoes in mud. None of us slipped over, thank goodness, although there were a few near-misses! the guide gave us leaves which are used in Tiger Balm, told us to screw them up and then to sniff them. They smelled just like Tiger Balm. After the forest, we went to a high point where we looked out over the highlands. The scenery is truly stunning, and the cool temperature was much more to my liking. We stopped by Sungei Palas tea plantation, although the factory itself was closed to the public. There were a few people ... read more

We laid in late, then bummed around until our bus picked us up at 2:30pm. We had the luxury of being the only four passengers on the minibus, all the way to the Cameron Highlands. We arrived at Bringchang's Hotel Rainbow around 9pm, and after resting for a bit, Sophie and I headed out for food. We went to KFC and were disgusted at how rudely we were treated by the staff. They originally told us we'd have to wait ten minutes for our food, and when we agreed, they upped it to thirty minutes. Knowing they were just trying to get out of cooking our food, we agreed to wait the half-hour. While we were waiting, they were blatantly slating us and complaining about having to actually do their jobs. After fifteen minutes, they gave ... read more

SEREMBAN LAKESIDE GARDENS, CAMERON HIGHLANDS DRIVE & BRINCHANG, CAMERON HIGHLANDS, PAHANG, MALAYSIA. Sunday 26 February, 2012. We left our hotel and headed for the Seremban Lakeside Gardens and arrived just before 10 am. It was a lovely sunny morning so we parked the car and walked around the middle lake. This lake and garden complex adjacent to downtown Seremban is a fantastic amenity site for the city. The tree-filled gardens are manicured and laid out with picnic tables. There is a shady walk all the way around the three lakes with two bridges to cross from one side to the other. There is an open air theatre with the stage on one side of the lake and the seating for the audience on the other. The lake closest to the downtown has a large fountain. There ... read more

Wow what a hike, I trekked to the top of Berinchang today and if I thought it was going to be anything like walks I have ever done before I was so wrong! There was a path just, most of the time however it was scrambling over trees, loosing my feet in swamps and overall getting very dirty and wet feet! It really was a hike in the jungle, hard work especially in the humidity but the views from the top were amazing and very rewarding. Then I met an Australian couple at the top after checking their feet a few times trying to work out how they got up here clean and in jandels I realised there was a 10 km drive up, but that's cheating and even though the hike was hard work I'm ... read more
