Malacca or Melaka however u wish to spell it is our first stop In Malaysia so were both pretty excited to see what it has to offer, after we arrived In one piece (just about ) at our new hostel we settled in, the hostel is pretty cool very minimalist which I love and on a quite back road just off the main drag. We arrived on a Sunday and the main attraction in malacca is the weekend market so we were just in time, so that evening we headed down to the market and decided to start at the food end as we where both starving from a day of traveling. There where loads of food stalls lining the road and all the food looked amazing we just weren't sure what any of it was and with no menus and the fact that most of the stall holder spoke little if any English meant it Took a while for us to pick what to eat. In the end grant pointed out what looked like a traditional malacca dish we had seen in the guide book that said it was a much try , after he order his I point at the same and was told no !! so I went for some noodle dish instead any way that turned out to be a good thing as the only way grant could describe his dish was it tasted like petrol and it really did!! My noodles where yummy. After our dinner we went an checked out the rest of the market, the market is mostly aimed at tourists with the same stalls selling the same touristy stuff all the way but we did manage to pick up a few bargains grant got a pair of much needed sunglasses their Oakley and are UV 400 all the the price of £3 hehe, the best part of the whole market was the main stage at the end which had local karaoke going on which was really funny all of the songs kinda sounded the same and it was take very seriously !! There was also a little old man dancing on stage next to the singer doing some of the best dad dancing I've ever seen ! Even though it was the evening it was still really hot so we went and got a cendol which is a Malaysian dessert it's pretty much shaved ice with coconut milk, sugar cane syrup poured over the top yum but then they also added kidney beans on top for good measure yuk. So all in all the we had fun at the market and it was an eye opener to some Malaysian food 😊 . On our first full day in malacca we thought we'd see what the city had to offer so off we went to see the sights we headed up to St. Paul's hill, at the top of the hill there's a relic of a church building that was built by the Portuguese and later turned in to a ammunition store by the British, the church has since been restored gave some really pretty views , after looking around we headed to the bottom and the sultans palace entrance was around 40pence to get in bargain !! It's an amazing building just to look around and and some cool story's about the region and its history. Our hostel is based in china town and its only a short walk from all the heritage attractions there's a few Dutch and Portuguese forts about lots of archeological sites that have been dug up and lots

can just see sam giving us a wave
of tacky tut tuts every where so it's a real mix. Later that evening after getting some food we decided to head towards St. Paul's church again to see if it would you be lit up of a night , it wasn't and the streets where early quite ad deserted so we decided to just head back to the street our hostel was on and grab a drink , as we where walking back I noticed a lady staggering around in the full burka she looked a little crazy and not quite with it just as I thought this she looked up straight at me and started screaming at me and running towards me, we just walked off pretty fast but it was a little scary. For our last day here we got up and had a breakfast of ice cold white coffee for grant and white tea for me it's amazing and since we have been here grants been a bit hooked on iced coffees, we then went to the Maritime museum which consisted of three attractions one massive ship and two buildings featuring all the maritime history of this area and there's a lot the ship was really cool and there was a lot of British influence in this part of the country so was interesting too see how they perceived the British. Once back at the hostel the guy that mangers it Sam asked if we wanted to go to a locals market so us and a few other from the hostel all headed off there was about 8 of us in total and Sam gave us all bikes, now trying to get across a road here is like taking your life in your own hands so riding a bike is pretty much suicide. We all just pretty much peddled and looked straight ahead hopping for the best didn't help much that I had a flat tire half way there but we made it in one piece. Now at the moment it's Ramadan so most of the country is fasting so the local night market was really packed and full of food. As they can only eat of an evening we walked around the market and got to know some of the other people staying in our hostel a bit better the food was again amazing and super cheap, we had satay chicken and beef, tart cakes, fried dough balls with peanut butter in side all really yummy. As its our last night the only thing left for us to do here was the night boat up the river and after reading some good reviews on line we thought why not ummm it was pants like there wasn't any thing to see hahah, but anyway where off to Kuala Lumpur in the morning and have had such a cool time in malacca and met so many nice people so till next time x

white coffee
The coffees look unreal! Enjoying the blog updates, helps me keep slightly sane reading them whilst grinding out our last few months in the rat race before another long trip ourselves. Keep 'em coming.... :)
