Day 3 (24/7/2022) Found another coffee shop for breakfast. This coffee shop was more crowded than the previous one and served more local food. Food was not too bad too. After breakfast, we checked out of our Airbnb and head towards the Desaru fruit farm. Once we reached, we had to pay for the ticket and get our queue number to board a truck to the fruit farm. While waiting, we walked around the gift shop, trying out some of the dried fruits. The truck drove us to the entrance of the orchard. There was already a guide explaining to a family before us when we reached. However, we were left to explore the orchard on our own. Nothing fanciful. We then reached a koi pond where we could buy some fish food to feed the ... read more

Day 2 (23/07/2023) We had breakfast at a nearby coffeeshop (can't remember what is the name already). Food was not too bad. After that, we went back to prepare for beach! Desaru beach was crowded but we still managed to find some empty spaces for us to put our mat. The sand and ocean were generally clean. A was abit hesitant in playing with sand at first, but was ok after awhile. Fearing that A might be cold from the water, we went to change around noon time. The toilet was really dirty and dark, so we changed A on the beach instead. Me, my husband and A left first, while the rest continue to stay at the beach and play watersport. Back to our Airbnb, we showered A, fed him lunch before putting him to ... read more

Day 1 (22/07/2022) This was the first trip with my family after I had A. We left house early hoping to beat the traffic at the Woodlands Checkpoint. The drive in was not too bad, just slight jam. We then stopped at a dim sum place (Pin Ming Xuan) for breakfast. Slight more expensive than local kopitiam, but it looks cleaner (playing safe for A). Food was not bad as well. We then drive to Mid Valley to do some grocery shopping as well as to kill some time before check in time. Me, my husband and A went to Kiddytopia, while the rest went to do their own stuff. Indoor playground in Johor was so cheap as compared to Singapore and there was no time limit as well. A enjoyed himself at the indoor playground. ... read more

Sunday, 4th March 2018 Checking in at the Sands and Sandals Resort was a pleasant experience. We had a pool facing room with a partial seaview. The bedroom was spacious with an outdoor bath at the balcony. Our minor gripe was the less than satisfactory air-conditioning which DC woke up with sweat the next day. Our afternoon activities included kite flying by the peaceful beach and taking naps on the sun deck chairs by the swimming pool. For dinner, we drove out to the Indian Mamak stalls for our delicious roti canai and nasi goreng pattaya. On our way back to our room, we headed back to the beach to set off some mini-fireworks as well as moon watching by the sea. Breakfast the following day was nothing to shout about which was a shame given ... read more

Saturday, 3rd March 2018 Our Desaru roadtrip started on Saturday morning when DC arrived at my place sometime after 6am. The strategy was to beat the weekend crowds at the Woodlands Checkpoint by having an early start. Desaru have been a bucketlist as far as my travel plans go. It was one of the earliest places in Malaysia that I knew it existed. The story goes back to 1991 when there was a school trip and for some reasons, I was not able to make it for the trip. Flashback 27 years later, I was soon on my way to Desaru in March 2018 courtesy of DC. Our efforts paid off as we arrived at our breakfast place at Restoran Gim Cheng around 7+ in the morning. This is a no-frills Dim Sum place near to ... read more

My flatmates and I have won 5 tickets for a 1-day-trip to Desaru. How lucky we are, aren't we? It's a short trip, but nevertheless, something to spend over the weekend. We departed for Desaru very early in the morning, around 7am. Our first stop was at a mushroom farm. We had our buffet breakfast there as well. The menu was nasi lemak with fried oyster mushroom; one of my favourite rice and mushroom! I ate quite a lot there. Then, we were guided to the mushroom farms and there were lectures, lectures, and lectures again. So, my friend and I took out our cameras and tested macro-shooting. We were so addicted on macro for that day. When the mushroom tour guide has ended, I was going to buy the oyster mushroom but unfortunately, we didn't ... read more

I just came back from Desaru, malaysia. Stayed in this hotel called Purai Desaru. It was a nice and quiet place. just 10+km away from Singapore where i lived. The place requires some renovation as it is pretty run down. Other than that, the service is quite good. The price there is not that expensive. Per night stay is about RM 330 for Deluxe room for a week end stay over. We drove in from Singapore to desaru using their expressway number 3, before turning to exit 92 and exit 90. Always leave early on a Saturday , if you were to drive along the causeway if not u will end up in severe jam in JB. We left singapore at 1245hr and only arrive at 1545hr. The journey should take less than 1.5hr Indeed, on ... read more

Desaru, Malaysia There was a group of NUS exchange students going out Sunday night to watch the fireworks go off as Singapore welcomed in the Chinese Lunar New Year. (Why no pictures? Singapore didn't have any fireworks due to the economy - cheap skates!). While talking to a few friends about where to travel for our Monday & Tuesday holiday, we heard a group talking about going to Desaru, Malaysia. We decided that it was easier than trying Bintan, Indonesia (which required a more expensive ferry, purchase of a visa, and no promise of a place to stay). So began the unplanned Ballad of Francis the Malaysian.... We were leaving Singapore aboard a small ferry aka "Dum Boat" for a short S$10 ride to middle-of-nowhere, Malaysia. We had be given warning that Singapore's customs would be ... read more
