Our View..
Slightly different angle than we had from our rooms but same same. Vang Viang is definitely a natural paradise. Yes, of course there are the people that spend a month tubing the Nam Song and watching Friends and Family Guy everyday, but there is much more to see around. The four of us dique 'VIP'Mini bus to Vang Viang and were there by early evening. May Lyn Guesthouse, which is running by an Irish character is just across a suspension bridge. We found out upon arrival to the bridge that there was a 4000 kip fee per person to cross. Jan was tired and we had come this far, so we paid and wandered until we stumbled upon our wonderful abode. We all went to sleep not sure what the place really looked like and the next morning we were truly amazed at the view that we discovered in the morning. On top of that, the overgrown brush it seemed like we were passing through was actually a lush garden with butterfies and other creatures.
One of the afternoons there was spent tubing down the Nam Song, we did partake in a few of the free shot activities, purchased a couple buckets of whisky and coke/red bull and much much more. The
Our Porch...
There were three rooms that shared the same porch. mudpit, that came with a slide was fun but even more exciting and probably more dangerous was the waterslide a bit downstream that was lined with subway tiles (about 30 feet long) leaving you about 10 feet in the air and thrusting you 10-15 feet out. Schnorli was the first of our group to go down, she started making her way down but very slowly... they forgot to turn the waterhose on! It was great fun for the other three of us though. Oh yeah and to go on the slide your group has to buy a bucket and with the bucket you get a nicely polished fingetnail, red was the color of the day.
Another day we went out on motorbikes to go caving and some swimming. The first cave we went into, there were was an American and Belgiun married couple that went in with us. At one point they wanted to turn back so the guide left with them, us still in the cave, to the entrance. Well what sense would it make to sit there for 10 minutes?? So we didn't, we ventured further into the cave, going through holes and around corners until we
hit dead ends...
One path looked like it would be a way to somewhere after you crawled for about 30 feet, but it apparently was a drop of, but narrow so you you wouldn't actually fall off of the edge. After that we headed uproad a bit more to what we thought was the cave with Blue Lagoon in front, it wasn't. After two locals told us to hop the barbed wire fence, which we did, and go through the rice patty field, which we didn't, we turned back and went to the little stream nearby that had a tree with a swing attached to it as well as a couple tractore inner tubes.
Finally, we did make it to Blue Lagoon and the cave behind it.. didn't explore it too much, only Franz did a couple rounds, slipping once I think. The lagoon is actually stream water again but this time you could see dozens of fish along the edge so I entered using the rope. We determined the water was more than 3 meters deep because Jan jumped and submerged himself without touching anything.
A few of the other things we did happen to do
Medicine Bottle #1
This was 'Super' Tiger! while we were there was enjoy a couple episodes of Family Guy. We weren't the typical foreigners that spent five hours a day in front of the screen at some restaurant, we watched maybe two hours in total. We went out to the island that has quite a few bars on it, crossing the bridge called the, 'Wobbly bridge of death' and follwed the bad karaoke. Turns out it was a local party that was watching the teams prepare for the boat races at the end of Buddhist Lent. They offered us a few bottles of beer and as we were leaving we asked how much we owed... we got a 'you no pay, no pay' which was a nice start to our adventures in town. We tried out quite a few of the bars on the island and around town as well as enjoying our daily bottle of medicine.
In all this was a great relaxing way to spend four nights. Great times in Vang Viang.
