As the crow flies our journey into Laos's Luang Prabang was a mere 220 km however thanks to the Luang Prabang Mountain Range, it was in fact closer to 500 km. With the never ending twists and turns as well as the frequent potholes an incident was inevitable. Vang Vieng is famous for tubing / pub crawling along the Nam Song River. However, since 2011 there has been a big clampdown on this due to the many drownings of tourists.

Concrete for this was donated by the US Government to help with the building of an airport in Vientiane. The Laos Government had other ideas and so it is known as the vertical runway!

The illegal metal scrap trade from Vietnam fuels this problem even further as it encourages people to put their lives in danger by collecting these cluster bombs
