The Snow has finally come!!! And it's bucketed down!! I think it was from all the Pizza and Saki we ate and drank on Friday night. Seems to be the way the Gods work around here, "Get shit faced and it snows the next day". I like it.... Friday night was another great night, Luke one of the guys running the lodge organized a the night and had 15 large Pizzas delivered and cracked open 3 big Sake bottles and 3 wine bottle plus all the normal beers we drink every night. It was set to be a great night.
It's so great everyone here gets a long and everyone seems to have their own character that fits into the group, people make this place. We didn't even leave the lodge that night, just sitting back telling stories, watching footy on the projector (GO BOMBERS), searching through all the funny things on youtube and finishing the night watching Japanese NYE no laugh game show competition (Yes it was weird but funny as fuck HAHA!!). I think we ended up hitting the hay at 4am that night, not bad for a night in.
So Saturday rolled on and it was snowing flat out. We hit the top run cutting through the trees with nearly knee high powder, I couldn't believe it. This Powder is amazing here, it is so light and fluffy I can't even think of a way to explain it. The only down side to it when you snowboard through Powder it slows you down, but on the up side it just meant you hard to hit it harder and faster. Oh and when you do stack in it, is like landing in a pile of pillows, mind up face planting still hurts. Managed to get a lot of GoPro film and a fair few other guys here have them also, so we'll be doing a big swap of footage before parting ways. this just means I'll end up having millions of hours of video to try to edit up into a 5 odd min video, should be fun....
With the snowboarding done for another day and everyone on a massive high from the awesome Powder we were all hitting today, it was time to hit the town. Once again Foot Bar was the start of the mayhem but this time we left there to go to the tourist karaoke, Heaven bar. Another small bar inside but had a fair few people all in dress up costumes, I talked to a couple of girls and worked out they were celebrating a birthday and where all French living in Tokyo, weird combination i know. Stay bar was the next bar to hit and also was the last one of the night with 4am suddenly appearing it was time for home.
Waking up at 9:30am and missing breakfast I'm pretty sure I was still drunk. So I ate some left over pasta I cooked the night before, than Matty and I hit the mountain. This day the snow had stop and with a couple of tiny breaks in the clouds the sun was shinning through, making it a great day for the camera but all we wanted to was board. Trying to hit the Powder in the trees was a little hard as the no new snow made it a tiny bit icy over the top so we decided to hit the other side of the mountain and do the runs. That was a great idea, having so much fun and trying to get as many Japanese to say hello on video made it great. Mainly doing speed run instead of the trees Matty clocked us at a top speed of 68kph on his Iphone, that's pretty fast when all your doing is standing on a skinny board!!
Now that brings us to today and the snow has returned, in a big way. A crew of 6 of us hit the top run first thing which was around 9am with the lift just opening. I don't like using this word but it was EPIC!!! with Powder at knee deep and sometimes even coming up to my waist it was amazing. We were all bombing runs pointing our boards straight down, I was in heaven. That was until I had a stack with my GoPro mounted on my helmet break off and disappearing (I've put a video on YouTube). I spent the next 9 mins looking for it and just before pulling the pin I decided just to run my hands around in the snow and found it 100mm under the snow. I was stoked to say the least and I'm pretty sure you can tell this in the video haha. With that done everyone put their camera away as really it was snowing that much you really couldn't see much anyway. It all turned bad from 12:30pm though with the snow coming down even harder and the wind picking up getting close to being a blizzard. I seriously couldn't see 10m in front of me so going down some of these runs was not fun. Pulling the pin it took 1 hour to get to the bottom of the mountain, normally this only takes 30mins if that.
So here I am again in the common room updating everyone of my adventures. It's been crazy and I'm loving every minute of it and it's a must do for everyone even if it's just once.
Here for a good time not a long time.
