On our day of departure, we had to leave the flat by 9am. After that I waved goodbye to the other 3 and left on my own. I took the train to the Five Lakes district and stopped at Kawaguchi station. For the return journey, I took the bus which turned out to be cheaper and as fast.
For my first night, I stayed in a fancy hotel. I was in a three-person dorm, nothing too fancy there but the hotel had its own onsen. After dropping my bags, I went for a walk around the lake Kawaguchi. From the side opposite to my hotel, there is a very good view of Mt Fuji. Except that this afternoon the clouds were masking the top of the mountain. I had an early diner in order to be able to enjoy the onsen this evening. It is not recommended to bath just after a meal. The onsen at the hotel was really cool and quiet, it was only me in there. Inside, there was the shower area and a pool, the outside part had 2 pools but one was way too hot for me to be able to stay in it.
The reasonably warm outdoor pool was made with big stone to look like a natural pond. It was really nice to bath in warm water with the fresh air cooling my face.
I enjoyed the onsen that much that I got up at 7am in order have a dip before taking my breakfast looking at Fuji-san. I didn't stay very long in the hot pool this morning in order to only dynamised my body and not feel too relaxed. I am so lucky, this morning the sky is blue and Fuji-san top clearly visible. This mountain is really impressive. Its base is at around 800m and the top reaches 3,777m. But what makes it so remarkable is that Fuji-san stands alone! You can clearly see the slope of the volcano. At this time of the year, Fuji-san is still covered with snow and it is impossible to access the base camp 5 (from which trails start to reach the summit). It is only allowed to walk up in July and August.
After breakfast, I took the Retro bus (it's a tourist bus) to go to different point of interest nearby. I choose to go to the Wind cave and the
Ice cave. I walk from one cave to the other. The path was in the forest. A really weird forest: it was not dense but I felt that I would get lost very easily if I was to deviate from the path. Indeed, I walk few meters of track to find a spot for lunch and it felt as I was lost. Well, being the only one around kind of helped. Still, I had no envy to venture very far. Just in case the forest caused you to forget you are at the foot of a volcano, stepping into the cave will remind you. The ground is almost only made of lava stones. It was very cold in the caves compared to the outdoor temperature that was very comfortable. Those two caves were used as fridges and freezer back in the days (17th century). In the Ice cave, the ice forms naturally about 20m underground.
Have you ever tried corn ice cream? No. I tested it for you. It was actually very nice. It was a soft cream base flavoured with corn. The flavour is very delicate. I almost wished it was a little stronger. I had an ice cream and
then the weather started to change. When I arrived at Iyashi village, clouds had already reclaimed the top of Mt Fuji. This village is a replica of a traditional village. I say replica because the original was destroyed by a land slide during a typhoon in 1966. It is now an open air museum with handy craft shops. I took the bus just as it started to rain.
Once back, I had to change hotel. I can't afford a fancy hotel two nights in a row. I ended in a very nice hostel. The building seem recent and the staff was very helpful. It is called K's house and I highly recommend it. For diner, I went to a nice restaurant to eat a local speciality: Houton. It is little bit like a ramen but different. The noodles are very thick and shorter. I had the one with pumpkin, it was really tasty.
For my third and last day, I got up early again 6.30am. It's at that time of the day that you can get the best light on Mt Fuji. So I did the same than yesterday, I crossed the bridge and had breakfast near the small fishing
boats. I really enjoy that view. This morning some clouds had gathered at the bottom of the Mt. I am almost sure that by the end of the afternoon they will be around the top. I was back at the hostel at 8.30 to rent a bike. I went to Chureido pagoda. It's very famous for cherry blossom. OK I am a little bit too early, bloom is just starting. But it was still very impressive. The view of Mt Fuji dominating the town is splendid. The pagoda was actually much further than I thought. I got there rather quickly as it was downhill, the way back took me longer. But it was well worth it.
I got back around noon so I had some time before the bus leaves. I ceased the chance to walk into a Lawson (convenient store) in order to buy a ticket for the Ghibli Museum. It is only possible to visit it with advance ticket. I had to use a machine to do that and obviously it was in Japanese. So the woman in charge had to give me a hand. I will be visiting the Ghibli museum on the 21st. I am already excited
about it! I bought a bento and sat in the sun to have lunch while looking at Fuji-san.
Le jour du départ, on a dû quitter l'appart à 9h du mat'. Du coup, j'ai dit au revoir à Elfi et ses potes et je suis partie de mon côté. J'ai pris le train pour aller dans la région des Cinq Lacs. Je me suis arrêtée à la station Kawaguchi. Pour le retour j'ai pris le bus. C'était moins cher et tout aussi rapide.
J'ai passé ma première nuit dans un vrai hôtel. J'ai quand même partagé ma chambre avec deux autres filles mais l'hôtel avait son propre onsen. Je suis arrivée en début d'aprem', alors après avoir posé mes sacs, je suis partie faire le tour du lac. Il est immense alors j'ai pris le pont du milieu pour traverser et me balader de l'autre côté où la vue sur Fuji-san est splendide. Sauf qu'aujourd'hui, les nuages sont accrochés à la montagne du coup on ne voit pas le sommet. J'ai mangé tôt. En effet, je veux profiter de l'onsen ce soir et il n'est pas recommandé de se baigner juste après le repas. L'onsen de l'hôtel est vraiment sympa. En plus, j'étais la seule alors c'était calme et reposant. Il est divisé en trois parties : la première, le vestiaire puis les douches avec un bassin chaud et la partie à l'extérieur. J'ai beaucoup aimé être dehors, il y avait deux bassins mais l'un était bien trop chaud pour moi. L'autre était fait pour ressembler à un bassin naturel et était fait avec des cailloux. J'y ai passé un moment, c'est agréable d'être assise au chaud avec l'air frais qui vous pique le visage.
Je me suis tellement régalé que je me suis levée à 7h du mat' pour y retourner. J'y suis restée bien moins longtemps. En effet, un bain rapide ça réveille (surtout suivie d'une douche fraîche et vigoureuse), par contre un bain long ça endort. J'ai pris de quoi petit-déjeuner et je suis retournée de l'autre côté du lac. J'ai de la chance, ce matin il n'y a pas un seul nuage à l'horizon. Fuji-san est vraiment impressionnant. Il se dresse de toute sa hauteur au-dessus de la ville. Il n'a aucune concurrence. Sa base est à environ 800m et le sommet atteint 3 777m. Je peux vous dire que ça en jette et qu'on peut clairement voir les pentes et le haut aplati typique d'un volcan. A cette période de l'année, la montagne est recouverte de neige. Il est même impossible de rejoindre le camp de base n°5 (c'est de là que partent les randos vers le sommet). On peut seulement monter en Juillet et en Août.
Après le petit dej', j'ai pris le RétroBus. C'est un bus touristique qui va d'un point à l'autre autour du lac. Ce n'est pas trop cher et bien pratique. J'ai décidé d'aller visiter deux grottes, celle du vent et celle de glace. Il y a un chemin qui relie les deux grottes à travers la forêt. Il
faut une vingtaine de minutes pour le parcourir. Cette forêt est vraiment étrange, elle n'est pas très dense mais donne l'impression qu'on pourrait s'y perdre très facilement. Tout est recouvert de la même mousse. D'ailleurs je me suis un peu éloignée du chemin pour pique-niquer et j'avais l'impression d'être perdue. Il faut dire qu'il n'y avait que moi. Je vous garantis que je ne me suis trop éloignée. Juste au cas ou la forêt vous ai fait oublier que vous êtes au pied d'un volcan, les grottes sont là pour vous le rapeller. En effet, le sol est quasiment exclusivement composé de lave. Il faisait froid à l'intérieur par rapport à la température extérieure qui permet de se promener en T-shirt. En même temps, je m'en doutais. Cette cave servait respectivement de frigo et de freezer (au 17ème siècle). La glace se forme de manière naturelle à une 20aine de mètres de profondeur grâce au ruissellement de l'eau.
Avez-vous déjà goûté la glace au maïs ? Non. Et bien je l'ai testé pour vous ! Franchement, c'est plutôt bon. Le goût est délicat. J'aurais presque aimé qu'il soit un peu plus fort. Une fois que j'ai eu fini ma glace, le temps a commencé à tourner. Le vent s'est levé, les nuages sont arrivés. J'ai repris le bus. J'ai fait une courte pause dans le village de Iyashi. C'est un village qui a été reconstruit à l'identique de celui qui fut emporté par une coulée de boue lors d'un typhon en 1966. Maintenant, c'est un muséum à ciel ouvert et les maisons sont des boutiques d'art traditionnel. Je suis remontée dans le bus juste avant qu'il ne commence à pleuvoir.
Ce soir je dors dans une auberge de jeunesse. Je ne peux pas me permettre de rester plus d'une nuit dans un vrai hôtel. Cette auberge est vraiment bien, le bâtiment est neuf et le personnel super sympa. Elle s'appelle K's House et je la recommande. Ce soir j'ai mangé dans un resto sympa où ils servent une spécialité du coin : des Houtons. C'est un peu comme un ramen mais différent…les nouilles sont épaisses et un peu collantes. J'ai choisi celui à la citrouille et je me suis régalée !
Pour mon troisième et dernier jour, je me suis levée super tôt, à 6h30 du mat'. C'est à cette heure matinale que l'on peut admirer la meilleure lumière sur Fuji-san. Donc, j'ai fait pareil qu'hier, j'ai emporté mon petit déj', j'ai traversé le pont et je me suis installée là. La vue est vraiment géniale. Ce matin quelques nuages sont rassemblés au pied de Fuji-san. Je parie que ce soir ils cacheront le sommet. Je suis retournée à l'auberge à 8h30 pour louer un vélo et me rendre à la pagode Chureido. C'est super connu pour voir les fleurs de cerisiers. Bon moi je suis un peu en avance pour la floraison mais tant pis. Le vue était quand même impressionnante. Fuji-san domine la plaine et on peut voir les flancs du volcan ainsi que son sommet aplati caractéristique. La pagode était plus loin que je ne pensais. Pour y aller c'était en pente mais le retour était en montée. J'ai attrapé une bonne suée.
Avant de repartir, j'ai eu le temps de passer chez Lawson (superette) pour acheter mon ticket pour le musée Ghibli. Il faut impérativement l'acheter en avance. Il m'a fallu demander de l'aide à la caissière car le distributeur de ticket était évidemment en japonais et je n'y comprenais rien. J'ai quand même réussi, donc le 21 je visite Ghibli. J'en suis déjà toute excitée.
