Been a crazy past two weeks. Monday (August 4) had a headache all day, then ended up with a fever Monday night. It broke when I was sleeping because I woke up drenched in sweat. I had the worst night of sleep that night, woke up every hour. I felt so heavy, I kept dreaming that I was carrying yukata's up Mt. Fuji. Went to work Tuesday, but still didn't feel to great, had a sore throat and so on. Had dinner at Zachary and Sophia's house that night. Was so good, and so much fun. BBQ ribs, macaroni and cheese, tortillas. YUM! Was fun to talk to the parents about what they do and such. About a month before we had grown bean plants in our class with a bean and a paper towel and the kids got to take them home. Well they actually planted them and showed us and it was huge! I couldn't beleive it. Wednesday and Thursday I went home and slept. Thursday I had asked Pam what to do because my mouth was numb and she said I"d have to go to the dr. in the morning if it was still like that. So, Friday
morning she had it set for me to go. I went to the gate and helped out but then afterwards I Kaz and Hiroo took me to the Tokyo Clinic right across the street from the Tokyo Tower. Kaz went in with me and helped me find the right area and check in. Then she waited in the car. All the paperwork they had me fill out was my name and address no medical history or anything. It was funny because all of the receptionists were wearing masks to keep them from getting sick. Then I sat down and they called my name over an intercom and gave me a clipboard. I sat back down and the doctor called me in over the intercom and told me which room to go to - no nurses. They had japanese doctors and english ones. I went to the room and it was the doctors office with his desk and everything and it also had a exam table. He asked a few questions, checked for strep (without gloves) and sent me to get blood test (which they did without gloves too!). I waited again in the lobby and then he called me back
Dr's office
You can see my doctor way back there in and said I had a virus called herpangina... very infectious and there was no medicine for it. I paid 204000 yen and then went back to work. Pam had me go home and sleep, she didn't want me around the kids anymore and they sent a note home with them saying they'd been exposed to it... not anything serious just miserable for kids when they get it. I slept the rest of the day then went out to dinner with the whole camp that night. I didn't feel as sick as I did at the beginning so Pam told me to go out with them that night. EWA took us to a nice restraunt (all the counselors, Pam, Kaz, and Hiroo) and paid for it all. Really nice of them and really good food. Had Tuna steak, mint tea, and a chocolate cake and icecream yum! Went to Odaiba with Haley Chelsea and Amy C. on saturday. Was cool, we saw the statue of liberty and Fuji tv building and little hong kong which was a bunch of chinese restraunts (we ate at one which was a rotator and you just grabbed what you wanted). Was fun, but not
as cool as I thought it'd be. Looked around a mall too. Went home and slept Saturday. Monday and Tuesday Haley had to stay home from work because guess what.. I got her sick! I still have a sore throat and she has another fever tonight. Was suppose to go to dinner at Zachary and Zoe's on Tuesday but they switched it to tonight. All of the counselors but 1 went to their house tonight and ate dinner. It was a lot of fun being with everyone and the kids were so funny - so wound up. They aren't like that at camp. Their parents were really nice. Came home and weighed my luggage tonight - and its all like 40 pounds each! WOO HOO! Can't beleive tomorrow is the last day of camp and we go home Sunday. We tie dyed shirts Tuesday - I did 4 and 1 for Haley. It was so much fun! We rinsed them out today and washed them and they are soooo cool! I was happy to have them dyed because my camp shirts were so gross being just white and stained from camp! We get to wear them tomorrow too. Going to
send home our addresses with the kids tomorrow so we can hopefully be pen pals! Hope we get to because that will be so much fun. Today was Miss Amy's birthday so the kids and I made her a sign while she was out of the room. Went out to dinner with the girls last night for her birthday at this place called Zest. It was mexican food and was really good. We got her a cake and they kept calling it a birthday present. And when it was time for it they played the birthday song really loud and every looked (it was a huge place - 2 stories!). The cake was so cool, just a little bit of cake and fruit and it said Happy Birthday Amy in frosting written on the plate. It was really pretty and yummy! I told her to save the receipt (we paid for it) but it was cute because it said 1 special food. 😊 Was fun to go out as a group.
