On our way out for the day we walked through yoyogi park to look at the fountains and the bird sanctuary (although you couldn't really see many birds). It was very quiet and peacefull apart from a few people exercising. First we headed out to Shinjuku shopping area. We started out at kavukicho, which is an entertainment area with arcades, theatres, restaurants and what appear, at night, to be very dodgy strip clubs. We then headed to electric street, this is a street full of quite cool electric stores (although we focused on yodabashi camera, which had 9 floors-although 2 of them were not very good). After that we went to the tokyo metropolitan government building to take advantage of the free observatory. This was daves favourite view out of the three observatories weve visited, as ... read more

I (Hel) woke up and 7am to the sound of the snoring man playing in his plastic bags. He collided with my bunkbed and i couldn't take it anymore. I flung back my curtain and said 'will you just shut the fuck up' the japanese man looked at me in confusion, not knowing what i had said so i glared at him hoping he'd get the message. When our friend finally left we drifted back off to sleep and didn't get up until 11am. We decided today would be a good day to shop so we went to Harajuku, the Japanese version of Camden. There were shops and crepe bars lining the streets and it was full of fashion concious Japanese youngsters. We were all depressed that we couldn't buy anything. We ate lunch at Wolfgang ... read more

Most of my time in Tokyo I did not see the sun, however when I could actually see where I was going I made sure I used this time well. One day was spent doing laundry, it was really quite ridiculous. This was where Kelvin and I had a miniscule domestic over a domestic. It was really quite pathetic. Two washing machines. One, lights and colours, the other darks and jeans. The dark one was really full and they were not exactly the biggest of washing machines, so I suggested Kelvin to take out one of his many pairs of jeans. His view however was that not all of those items were jeans, one item was a pair of shorts. Yes, they were shorter in length, but still made of denim and taking up too much ... read more

How to enjoy Tokyo on a budget of under 1000 yen. Todays Destination: Harajuku There are 2 ways to travel to Harajuku - the JR or the metro - I prefer the JR because not only does it drop you right at the entrance to Takeshita street but it's also the line that I always use to get out to the lady pub friendly zone of Nishi Kawaguchi. The first thing to do upon arrival at Harajuku is look at the crowds and say "Holy Fu*k" followed quickly by "Pardon me" or "Excuse me" because nearly everyone around you will be a foreigner (predominantly American) and will recognise your foul language. While waiting for your friend to arrive listen in to some nearby Amercians conversing over a lonely planet, the conversation should go something like this; ... read more

Darren had an enjoyable end to his trip in Tokyo, in 24c sunshine. Quite a contrast to the previous day when it was 16c and rainy. Rodney and Inge also had a wet day (see their other entry). First Darren went to Ohgi's (friend) home suburb of Harajuku. There he enjoyed a flea market by a small local shrine, then headed for the Meji Shrine, built in tribute to the emperor who introduced the Japanese to western ways. A beautiful shrine and a wonderful day to visit as several weddings in progress. He then went to the gardens next door, established by the emperor for his empress. Unfortunately I was just a week or two early for a splendid vista of irises but it was amusing to watch the local professional photographers fuss over the first ... read more

Last night we went to see the bright lights of Shijuku and for a cocktail which was really ace, its way bigger then Picadilly Circus and loads more neon!! Today we went to Harajuku to see the girls and boys dressed up as little bo beep types and Elvis which is quite random! We posed for pictures with the harajuku girls to!! The area is very busy on Sundays a bit like Camden. We really enjoyed it especially watching an over competitive dad trying to teach his daughter badminton, not very japanese i know!! After chilling out in the park in Harajuku we went to the Sony Building and a wander around Ginza...the sony building is great with loads of fancy cameras and the biggest and bestest tv:s ever!! Also they have new gadget called a rolly ... read more

We decided to visit Harajuku. This area had lots of trendy shops -- a lot of US and European brands (Chanel, Lacoste, etc.). It is famous for the creative/stylish dress of the shoppers. On a Monday afternoon, there were only a couple fashionistas running around. We went to Kiddytown to check out the electronics and toys. Very fun. We also checked out a famous thrift store. Mostly we people watched and window shopped. We ended up buying lunch from a take-out counter: some bentos with fried fish (katsu) and Steve's had salmon and some meat balls. Both had salad, pickled veggies. We also saw a fruit stand and bought a bag of satsuma-like oranges. I was particularly happy since satsumas are one of my favorite things. We then crossed a bridge into a park. The area ... read more

Så... checkade ut. Stack - ännu en gång - till Yoyogi och åt frukost. Somnade sen i solen.
