On Saturday, Mario and I, along with 'Blue Angel', caught the ferry from Shimizu to Toi. After some takoyaki (octopus balls) for breakfast, we geared up and set off to Koibito Misaki - Sweet Lovers Point. We headed down the coast to a monkey park, then had a nap in the grass, before stopping at the southern most tip of the peninsula - Irozaki. We then continued to drive, actually ride, around the coast, checked out another beach and then decided to return to Irozaki for sunset. It was soooo windy at the top there was a bell that began ringing by itself!
We stayed the night at a nice onsen (hot spring) ryokan in Shimoda and after our baths (separately), I was spoiled with Moet and strawberries!
We got up early (for Japan standards) and tried to find somewhere for breakfast that opened before 10am. We found a cute cafe/restaurant, then explored some of the coast around Shimoda, including Shirahama beach. It was beautiful, the sand was white and the water was so clear. We swam for a bit, then took some funny photos on the torii gate and Mario pretended to be a monkey! Next stop was Joren Waterfall, also a popular area for wasabi. The icecream shops even sold wasabi icecream - yuk! The waterfall was ok but so many tourists. Mario and I found a more secluded area and went for a quick (very quick) dip in the freshwater - it was absolutely freezing!! After lunch, we contemplated another nap, but then decided to go home. Once we were heading in the right direction on the freeway, it was homeward bound and goodbye to our lovely weekend at Izu.

Monkeys place
Dear Marisa: please, don’t go again to a place of monkeys with another monkey. The local monkeys try to attack the invader. Ja. Lovely place, and I think lovely weekend. Kisses for you two. Patxi

Very funny Patxi!!! See you soon in Japan!
I think the monkeys did get a bit confused...maybe it was the long hair?? Also thanks to everyone else who has posted me a comment on this blog, I feel so popular, it's great!! Knowing that people are reading, or just looking at the photos or whatever, makes the effort I put in all the more worthwhile!! Cause it's a hassle sometimes, but I know, especially you Kate...and mum, would kill me if I didn't!!! Marissa xxx

Super Mario Brother
Hey isnt it blasphemy to hang on a torii like that, especially a woman wearing hardly any clothes? Good thing the yamabushi weren't there to summons a samurai to dispose of this dilemma! I liked this post. Which is strange, because usually I found Amy's Japan blogs far superior to yours! Ha ha just kidding of course... :)
14th June 2007

Ha ha you guys are so cute that looks like an awesome place!!! Very romantic. Don't blame Mario that monkey looked scary!!!
