I've had some pretty interesting trips before, like the time I had to jump start a helicopter just prior to going up in said helicopter - which made for some interesting thought processes however, I digress. Frankly, there is no better argument for the existence of God than Him absolutely toying with your flight plans in a way that can only be explained by divine intervention. The plan was to catch a daytime flight to Japan so we could arrive early, settle in and get our bearings. All good in theory! First there was the late arrival of the connecting flight. Not by much, a 45 minute delay. this actually gave us a little extra time to make it from the domestic terminal to the international terminal so it appeared to be a blessing in disguise ... read more

i think the last time I felt this tired was when Emily was born and I'd spent two nights sleeping in a bath. I wasn't sure how we were going to get up this morning but, fortunately, routine kicked in and we woke around 8:45. That gave us enough time to shower quickly and make it down for breakfast. I have to say, while the marketing people had used every photographic trick in the book to get the rooms to look a decent size, they were spot on when it came to the food. They promised best buffet in Osaka and they delivered. An excellent selection of Asian and western food all cooked to perfection and presented excellently. A great start to the day. We headed out very soon after eating and went down into the ... read more

It took us to the ferry boat station. We went to peace park. we saw the Cenotaph, Sadako Monument and the Bomb Dome. The story of Sadako Sasaki was told by our Japanese guide that after bomb blast, in few years Sadako started suffering from Leukemia. Her mother names it The bomb decease. She wanted to live. Someone told her to make 1000 paper cranes so that she can have her wish. (as per Japan tradition) Some say she died after preparing 644 cranes and her friends fulfilled the number. 06.04.2018 Kyoto - Nara - Osaka Today we were to leave hotel at Kyoto and go to Osaka via Nara. First was visit to Nijo Castle. Then Todaiji Temple and the Nara Deer Park them arrive in Osaka. Nijo Castle ( Nijōjō) was built in 1603 as the Kyoto residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo Period (1603-1867). His grandson completed the castle's palace buildings 23 years later and further expanded the castle by adding a five story castle keep. After the Tokugawa Shogunate fell in 1867, Nijo Castle was used as an imperial palace for a while before being donated to the city and opened up to the public as a historic site. Its palace buildings are arguably the best surviving examples of castle palace architecture of Japan's feudal era, and the ... read more

Our day started with trying to negotiate the buffet breakfast for familiar food. We met our guide Keiko, a lovely lady with fantastic English. We travelled to Osaka castle with its magnificent moat, enormous stone wall and amazing structure. It was our first taste of Japanese gardens which included glimpses of blossoms. We climbed the 8 flights of stairs to the top of the castle and looked out over magnificent gardens to see the blossoms almost ready to burst out. Yes, almost ready... but there were some and I have been informed by a friend currently in Tokyo, that they have arrived. The weather was spectacular to say the least - 21 degrees and sunny! It seemed that everywhere we looked there was a photo opportunity that couldn't be missed. We jumped back on the bus ... read more

After a long flight we found ourselves walking through a very quiet, well lit, excellently signed tunnel to our beautiful hotel in Kansai International airport. While Narita airport in Tokyo was not particularly impressive, Osaka's certainly did not disappoint! Having only been in Japan for only 24 hours, we are constantly amazed at the technology and efficiencies. Going to the loo has taken on a whole new perspective as we get used to all the 'extras' provided. Even though finding the flush button can be a little time consuming, the heated seats are well and truly worth the incovenience, let alone all the other features designed to give you the cleanist clacker possible! Imagine my amazement to also discover that trains not only arrive, but they do so on time and are so clean and quiet. ... read more

It immediately started to get very confusing as soon as I stepped out of the airport. This is not the first time for me to have absolutely no clue how to get out of the airport so I wasn't panicking. I tried to figure out the machines that were selling train tickets but to no avail. So I asked a guy at the booth and he pointed me to the room that sells tickets. I was told by a Filipino woman who's a resident of Japan at the airport in Manila that the unlimited train ticket was expensive so I just bought one way ticket to my AirBnB. Thank God for Google Maps! You're never really lost wherever you are even if you don't speak the language there. I just followed Google Maps and found my ... read more

Hi all about to start another adventure for the next month but this time I'm taking someone else to help me get lost! Mal and I will boarding a fight from Melbourne to Japan on March 13. But before that happens, we will have been to two concerts, gone paragliding (he flys, I watch!), caught up with family and friends and had copious amounts of laughing, drinking, eating and talking along the way. Mal had advised that he was going to study the Japanese language before we left. That was 4 months ago and I was delighted that I wouldn't have to learn that language given my very poor success in Spanish. Unfortunately he only found the CDs 2 weeks ago.....ummmm guess there's gonna be a lot of sign language, smiling, head bowing and pointing. As ... read more
