It has been sometime that I didn't write anything, but as I didn't do anything special last week, it didn't require an entry 😊 However, the full week has been quite interesting and I thought about doing a global week update... so it will be messy and full of small funny anecdotes, hope you will like it :P
Flea market: On last Saturday (22nd October), I had no idea of what I will be doing during the day. After waking up quite late from my Kendo after training drinking, and getting back my emotions on the fact that someone in Japan try to steal my wallet :P I looked into my book to see what can be done on a grey Saturday afternoon. I saw that on every 21 and 22 of the month there is a flea market in the Shitennoji temple. It seems that it is quite big and known for old kimonos and traditional Japanese clothing and antics. So after checking if someone wanted to come with me and packing my umbrella because it was supposed to rain, I was on my way for a 30 min bicycle ride 😊 Arriving in Shitennoji, I have to
say that I didn't expect to see such a big flea market. It was principally clothing (second hands), some antics and traditional Japanese clothing as expected. I was a bit disappointed as mainly all the clothes were for women, but still, it was really nice to see all this old colorful kimonos and the ladies trying them on 😊 It took me a good 2 hours to go all around the market and, fun fact, some stands were selling porn DVD (like 1 millions of DVD, a full stand), and even some sex-toys, but new ones, not used ones, don't worry 😉 What was the strangest, was that these stands were not hidden in a corner and quite in the middle of stands which were selling kid's toys lol. It seems that here they don't really have boundaries about porn stuff... as in grocery shopping places, it is not unusual to find a porn revue accessible for children eyes... it is not hidden like in Europe on the top shelf behind everything else :D
Finishing my tour of the flea market, I noticed that there is a really nice park / garden nearby, so I decided to go see
it. The weather was not great, but the park was really nice. Hidden behind a big wall, it was really quiet and peaceful. Nobody was inside so I strolled there alone for 30-40 minutes, taking some pictures and enjoying the scenery. I will probably go back there on a sunny day to enjoy a quiet afternoon 😊
Cheesecake leaving party: On Sunday (23rd October), it was the last day of Reina-chan in the shared house. As she works for the "Cirque du Soleil", they are doing a tour around Japan and her time in Osaka was ending. So for the occasion, we decided to do dinner, cake and drinking 😉 In Osaka, there is a shop which is really well known for cheesecake. It is completely different from the cheesecake we know as it is made with Danish cheese and it is really really foamy and light. Some friends recommended it to me and there is a shop in Namba. So with Bon-chan, we decided to go into town in the afternoon and getting the cake. I have to say that it is the first time that I queue to get a cake lol. And actually, the shop
is more like a factory as they are making the cakes all day long. The cakes are just out of the oven when you get them 😊 it smelled sooooo good. In the evening, everybody was here and of course, as usual, Reina-chan was not arriving. It seems she had actually dinner with people from her work, so we all had dinner without her and were just waiting for her to eat the cake (and drink). When she showed up, it took like 5 min for all of us to eat the cake, which I have to say was BRILLIANT. I don't know the recipe but I hope I can find it as this is one of the best cake I have eaten in a long time :D After some chat and drinks, Reina had to go packing as she didn't start doing it yet and her flight was the next morning... lol Finally, she ended up sleeping and woke up at 5 am to pack, leaving some of her stuff here which she will come pick up later :D
Unexpected Monday evening party: On Monday (24th October), I came back from town around 5.30 pm. I was
surprised to meet Hyun and Yumi-chan in the Kitchen having dinner (already) and drinking (as always) lol. It seemed they were having loads of fun and Yumi-chan invited me to join them 😊 As I had some homework to do, I told her that I would join 1h30 later... time for me to get my homework done 😊 When I came back to the living room, Chris just arrived as well and we started to make dinner and have few beers. Hyun and Yumi-chan being already drunk, they went to the 7-Eleven next door to get some more drinks. They came back with a bottle of whisky and some juice which we finished in about 1h :/ Then they went to get another bottle as Hyun needed to leave for work (night shift). Bon-chan arrived and we kept drinking quite a lot. It was not even a late night as we stopped drinking around 11h because everyone was out :P The conversations were really fun and we decided to explore the rooms of everyone, just to see. In Yumi- chan room we found a wig :P She showed us how it is when she wears it and what kind of
style it gives, then of course everyone tried it... It was a night of anything and everything, but really fun, and I was in bed by midnight 😉
School update: As I am here to study Japanese, I thought talking a bit about my Japanese progress would be nice :P So as the first week we learned the Hiragana (1st alphabet), this week was about learning the Katakana (2nd alphabet). So I know now the two "easy" alphabets, and will get soon on Kanji (hard). I can read easily but I am still practicing a lot as I read quite slowly at the moment and I want to improve my speed. Concerning the oral part, I understand more and more, but still struggling for speaking. The words are not easy to find and I make a lot of mistakes. But I try hard, so I will get there at one point 😊 I can have a basic conversation and sort myself out in daily life 😊 However, the school is now getting harder and faster, so I need to do more homework everyday to get up to speed :D Fluency is not for right now :P
