Well, it would be rude to go to a mountainous country in winter and not go skiing wouldn't it. So we hopped on a bullet train to Nagano and got a bus to the resort town of Hakuba. We found a nice little place to stay called Snowbeds and the owner kindly lent us a load of ski wear, hats goggles and all. Sara skied and I boarded. We had two days on the slopes of Happo One and one day at resort of Hakuba47. The resorts weren't quite as polished as those we have been to in France - older lifts and less well marked pistes, but it was extremely quiet so no lift queues and the skiing and views were very good. I got to do a few small jumps at the snow board ... read more

Japanese Only - Sorry Ⅰwant to practice! ... read more

As this trip is a past trip I'll make this brief. Skiing in Japan for the first time was amazing! Having been brought up in Australian conditions it was like I'd died and gone to skiing heaven. The snow was beautiful, the runs were wonderful and lift queues haven't been invented in Japan yet, even when it gets busy! We stayed for 9 nights at Pension Hayaokidori just down from Hakuba Goryu terminal. We skied for 8 days and loved every minute of it. We skied, Hakuba Goryu and 47, SunAlpina tri-peaks, Happo-o-ne and Iwatake. They were all magnificent! Prices just cannot be compared to Australia. The fact that we were able to catch a train practically from the airport to our pension was so great, the luggage courier service was prompt and efficient, our host ... read more

Travelling to Japan was a trip that was brought about by a school exchange program. Being in sixth grade at the time, I had always been a fan of Japanese culture, and travelling to the Land of the Rising Sun was always a dream of mine. My homestay family was located in Nagano, and during my trip, I spent much time with them. I knew a small bit of Japanese before I went, and communication was rather easy. Our many field trips included Kyoto, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nara, as well as stops in Osaka and Nagoya. This was the trip of a lifetime.
