This is when I started crying... outlines the story of Sadako, a girl who survived the bombing when she was 2, but developed leukaemia 10 years later. She had heard the Japanese story that if you make 1000 paper cranes your wish will be granted, but she only got to 750 before she died. Her classmates finished the rest of the cranes and gathered sponsorship to have a memorial put in the Peace Park for all the children affected by the bomb. There are rooms with millions and millions of cranes sent from children all over the world.

The main memorial- there is a marble coffin just behind us with a parchment that has all teh names of teh people that died immediately from the bomb and since. It is updated on the anniversary every year. This tunnel is directly inline with a fountain by the museum and the Peace flame and the top of the A-bomb dome

This watch was found after the bomb- it stopped exactly at 8.15 on the 6th of August.

This lunchbox was found in the arms of a 15 year old boy by his mother, she recognised the engraving on it. His lunch is solidified inside still.

This is horrible...... This tricycle was donated to the museum by the father of teh boy who owned it... The father found the boy's body near his tricycle and decided he was too young to be buried in the family's plot and so buried him in the backyard, then 25 years later decided to move him, so dug him up and gave the tricycle to the museum.

Still Raining

It was still raining when we got to the youth hostel and we were too late to get tea there so we had to borrow this yellow umbrella and go back out in the rain down the hill to the convenience store. We got a taxi back up the hill!!

These are parasols, for the dainty Japanese women to 'wear' in the summer. On Miyajima the boyfriends were carrying these for their ladies- the frills and lace are very manly!!!
