On 30th July every year eel is eaten. Its the height of Summer, humid and hot. Averaging 35-38 degrees. Everybody as usual works hard from the early hours until the late evenings. They walk around with towels around their necks to wipe the perspiration dripping from their faces, arms and neck.
Its a time to take care as its easy to become sick walking in and out of air conditioned super markets, department stores and office buildings and working hard. Eel is eaten because its nutrious and provides stamina during the months of summer. I took a liking to it. In fact when I visited Tokyo again I found the best restuarant where they serve it all year round. In Asakusa!, right near the Sensoji Temple area. Here I meet with my Hong Kong friends in Nagoya Station for the very last time, they returned home after 1 semester and we ate eel together.
