THURSDAY, JANUARY 26
I woke up at 4:30am this morning, got dress and went up to Deck 13 to see us slowly pull into Bali. It is a "tender" port . Glenn got up and we went to Deck 11 to grab breakfast. He was suppose to call Norma at 6:15 and make sure she was awake. Then at 6:30, Glenn met Norma and got our Tender ticket - number 6. After eating a quick breakfast, we came back to our room and got ready to go down and get in the "life boats" to go ashore.
Just as they were calling group 4 and group 5, we headed on down to deck 4. There was room, and we got on the boat without waiting for anything. The ride was about 30 minutes to the dock. Once we got to the port, we saw some Bali Dancers. I took some pictures. And then we waited and waited for Norma. Glenn purchased several postcards and I wrote two postcards - one to Karen and one to G'mommy.
Norma and her sister, Nona finally arrived at 10am. Nona was in a wheel chair and then she walked to the taxi car driver where Norma ended up after getting some Indonesian money. Norma and Nona allowed us to "tag" along with them. They had booked an excursion with "cruise.com". Since they didn't get off the boat at an earlier time, our tour was shorten a bit.
The city/town was not as crowded as the town in Vietnam. There were temples in everybody's yard. Lots of pottery. We stopped at 2 locations - 1) to see cloth being made 2)silver and gold factory. We talked our guide into driving out to the Rice terraces, especially since we were not going to stop and have lunch anywhere.
I got some great photos of the rice terraces. As we drove back, we found a Bressler ice-cream. I ran into the grocery store and got 5 different ones. Tiramisu, white chocolate, and crème bule . Everyone loved it. As we headed back to the port, we stopped at a coffee plantation, and got to taste different types of coffee and teas. Norma purchased some coffee.
We arrived back at the port around 3pm and had enough time to get some quick internet. Glenn found a wheel chair for Nona, while Norma went off and was shopping at the market. I found
a cloth bag that i will use for my cross stitch! The price was 10.00 and she came down to 5.00 and I ended up paying only 4.00
As we were standing in line, we talked to a gal that was traveling on her own. She was from Dallas. And then as we were on the "tender" the couple behind us were from Australia and they gave us hints about what to do in the port towns in Sydney.
Glenn and I came to the NCL Star and headed straight to O'Sheehan's Bar and Grill. Since we hadn't eaten lunch, we decided to eat an early supper. As we ate lunch/dinner, we were also watching the Australian Open between Federrer against Wawinka, both Swiss tennis players.
Just as the game was ending, the Captain came over the intercom and mentioned there was a slight change of plans and that we would be missing the island of Komoto (where the Komoto dragons live) and heading straight to Darwin, Australia. Wow, there was a lot of "booing" in the atrium. Many folks were upset that this port was being deleted.
When we got back to our state room, there was a note indicating changes in
our itinerary
Jan 27 At Sea
Jan 28 At Sea
Jan 29 Darwin, Australia
Jan 30 At Sea
Jan 31 At Sea
Feb 1 At Sea
Feb 2 Cairns, Australia
Feb 3 At Sea
Feb 4 At Sea
Feb 5 At Sea
Feb 6 Sydney, Australia
Basically, 3 more ports of call were deleted - Komoto, Airlie Beach, and Brisbane, Australia. So with the 2 previous ports deleted with Bangkok and Ho Chi Man City, Vietnam - there were many irate passengers on ship. I really feel sorry when many folks were looking forward to seeing the Komoto Dragons and also the Great Barrier Reef! Our friends, David and Rick had arranged to go on an airplane to fly over the great barrier reef.
NCL is compensating us for 50% off of future cruises in the next 12 years and also some more on-board credits for us.
