We first got to bengkulu at he start of August. Dates escape me now, but after a few days spent in Jakarta we flew up there with Lion air.

Its a lovely place. We spent a few weeks, then had a visa run to Batam (an Island of indonesia located near Singapore via direct flight from Bengkulu)-Johor Bahru (malaysia via a fast boat from Batam). Whilst in Johor Bahru we arranged a new 60 day Indonesian tourist visa.

Bengkulu has lots going for it. Most importantly its a real Indonesian town, not a tourist town like Kuta, Bali. Theres genuinely friendly locals here. It's npt uncommon to get upwards of a dozen "hello mistahs" in a single day - gotta love that 😊

The surf has been great. I have surfed every day (bar a couple) on my own. The waves are not world class, but waves of a similar quality would be packed out at my local breaks on Queensland's Gold coast. We are talking beach breaks at pan tai panjang and a left hand point break at Tapak Padri. Theres a mystery wave off the small offshore Island, Pulau Tikus - mystery because the local surfers swear its there, but not really happening on the day i was there.

The other really nice thing about Bengkulu is that it is the ferry departure point for trips to Enggano Island. Will do another Enggano entry as it really deserves one - its a special place..

We'll be back there in a few weeks to find a rental property. keen to stay here for the next 12 months.
