Inak cesta full aut (je okolo 7.00), dopravu musia ... read more

Dnes ma prekvapivo nezobudil rozhlas ale zametanie. Ono rano a poobede je v dedine vzdy pusteny rozhlas. Nieco zahlasia a zivot pokracuje dalej. Ranajky este neboli nakomplet, chybalo vysmazane sladene cesto (?). 3 belg sli na skory snorchel vylet spojeny s pozorovanim delfinom, 4 sla potapat. Nazad do manadao ich zoberie ina snorchlovacia lod. Mega rychle cestovanie, dosli na noc a hned prec. Moja lod mala odchadzat okolo 8.30, nakonec sla nieco po 9.00 Prakticky sme sli prazdny. Naklad len prazdne nadoby na vodu. Na ostrove je voda daka slana. Na lodi 6turistov a 6lokalov. Jasne, ze som zaplatil 50k. Kurvy. Nazad cesta trvala len 45.min. Po opusteny pristavu zistujem bemo na karombasan terminal. Kazde bemo ma poslalo o ulicu dalej az som skoncil na ratulangi ul oproti mulimarketu. V beme len 3osoby, opat sa sedi ... read more

A day that started well, went downhill but recovered. After a night disturbed by the sound of loud music from very nearby that went till after midnight (‘It’s the Baptists, you know, always celebrating something’ muttered the hotel owner, somewhat mysteriously) we said a sad farewell to the Gardenia Country Inn. It has been like staying at a friend's home, and we have chatted twice with Leonard the owner, a retired pathologist. We are still the only residents. A nervous young man who is always desperate to please has been hovering our room since around 630am (we are making a 9am departure) with a red wheelbarrow. We realise Lesley the manager had deputed him to move our luggage when we were ready to check out and he did not want not to be there when the ... read more

We are, of course, the only guests at breakfast. Fruit juice so thick it’s more like puree, a plate of fresh cut fruit and a club sandwich appear. The latter seems an odd item for breakfast, but as that seems to be it, we tuck in it. It’s very tasty. As we take our last mouthful, a plate of fried rice arrives. It is followed by bacon, a large omelette and some deep fried savoury balls with an unknown but tasty filling. We definitely can’t eat all this! We set off at 8am with today's guide Modi to Gunung Mahawu (pronounced “Ma –how”). Everyone is off to church today in their Sunday best, the ladies especially, first service apparently at 0530hrs. We drive through winding roads and across flat cultivated land and paddy fields, stopping on ... read more

Between the 3 of us Skoda the Czech, Tomas the Slovenian and me decided to hire a car and guide, Jeck to take us to Tomohon from BatuhPutih, we bid farewell to the French mother and son. About 2 hours it took us to get to Tomohon but before then we visited an old graveyard with sarcophagi that has intricate carvings, Minahasan ancestors are buried here I think it's called Waruga but I could be wrong. Then from there we went straight to the Tomohon market, it's busy but not overwhelming, we went straight to the exotic meat market and this is not for the squeamish! Right away we saw bats cut up into pieces, some in the process of being chopped up, these are big bats, I think fruit bats and they look scary with ... read more
