13th May Zoe went to collect her washing from down the street, i packed up my backpack, was brushing my teeth out the front of my room, they're building above, more rooms, so some welding was going on and sparks were flying everywhere and i mean everywhere, i literally had to dodge them.. hahahaha. All the guys in the hostel are so nice, every time they pass they say hi, good morning, how're you.. so sweet :) Cute little hostel, had a very nice stay here :) Walked down to the harbour and bought some little packets of food, rice, spicy chicken and tempeh, i love tempeh, its made out of soy beans, its very popular over here, like a meat substitute, like tofu i guess. Ang said he was going to mosque and was gona ... read more

9th May Checked out, had our last breakfast by the pool. Pick up was 10.30 to Padang Bay.. And it was on time too.. One things I've found with Indonesia is their pickups are always on time, unlike anywhere else in South East Asia, you can be waiting around for a couple hours.. No joke!! All loaded into the minivan and off we drove, matey driving like he was in the formula one, whizzing, over taking everything in front, it was very bumpy. Classic Asia driving.. Sort of use to it driving now.. hahaha :p After a couple hours we arrived at Padang Bay, the main harbour place to go over to the Gili Islands, dumped our bags down, went to get our boat ticket, had a beer in this place along the beachfront, then off ... read more

Saturday 12th March 2016 Happy to be waving goodbye to the sweat box of a room, but sad to be leaving Gili T which offered us an amazing 4 days, we left the homestay to catch the 9:30am boat to the next island on our list, Gili Air, which is only a short 10 minute ride away. Loading our bags aboard along with tonnes of other island hopping travelers, we arrived at Gili Air and made our way to our new accommodation, a detached bungalow set in a lovely green private garden. We were met by the owner of 'Yoland Guest House' and he showed us to the room. The first thing that hit us was the cool air of the aircon and we knew we'd have a good stay. After dropping off our bags we ... read more

I have a really bad story and a really good story. I'm going to start with the really bad one. I have had an easy go of things on this trip. I've gotten lucky with the weather and with people and, although I've had cranky days, nothing horrible has happened to me. It still hasn't, but Kuta was pretty close. So my flight was delayed an hour, which pushed it from an 8:40pm flight to a 9:40pm flight. I got on the plane and was seated in a middle seat (which I knew) in the row IN FRONT OF THE EXIT ROW (so the seats don't recline. UGH) and in between two guys with really bad breath. The flight was spent attempting to sleep even though the lights were on in the plane the whole time ... read more

Tuesday 8th March 2016 After a quick breakfast we headed to the mini bus with Nicole and after 30 minutes we arrived at a small restaurant by the port and were told to wait for 1 hour as the boat didn't leave until 10am. At 9:55am we were told to get into a horse drawn cart which would take us 100 metres to the port. As we were about to climb in I asked whether we had to pay for this and the driver said 'yes'. My South East Asia conning radar was now switched back on having been turned off in Malaysia. I told Nicole who was climbing into her own cart and 2 other girls getting into their cart. I told them that we should walk, but the sneaky horse men had left our ... read more

18th October Had my last breakfast at the hotel, all the staff are so friendly, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is coming to Ubud. Checked out and got my pick up at 10.30am. One hour drive to Padang Bai. I'm like on my own, didn't have a clue where I was going, went into this restaurant and got a ticket for the boat and sat and ate food.. Chicken satay, rice and a mango shake (can't get enough of them..haha) a couple sat on the table with me, was talking about where we've been, general traveling talk, then a little rat ran across the beam of the restaurant and went into the little offering baskets that were up high and took the food.. Haha. Some people would freak out and scream, but it's ... read more

There are three Gili islands which technically belong with Lombok rather than Bali. They all have distinctly different characters. Gili Trewangen, the largest of the islands, is a party destination. Gili Air was the first of the islands to be settled and is still busy but apparently has more of a local and backpacker flavour. Gili Meno, the smallest of the islands and our chosen destination, lends itself to tranquil Robinson Crusoe getaways. Our journey to the island was somewhat awful though. There are numerous fast boat companies that offer transfers from the mainland to Gili Trewangen and to Gili Air. The coast around Gili Meno must be too shallow for speed boats to moor, so you need to disembark at Gili Trewangen and catch another boat to Gili Meno. We had known about this and ... read more

It was our last holiday before the extended summer break. Two other friends and I spent it on the Gili Islands. We had a four day long weekend and decided to take the hour and half flight to Lombok right after school on the Wednesday evening . From there we took a boat to Gili Trawangan. There are three islands in total including Gili Meno and Gili Air. This series of islands is located just off the northwest coast of Lombok. We stayed on the far side of Gili T and could see Bali in the distance as the sun was setting. The Gili islands are famous for their remote island experience and are very popular with tourists. Horse and buggy is one of the main forms of transportation on the island so after loading up ... read more

Senggigi We arrived in Lombok and stayed a few days in Senggigi before taking a bus and boat to the beautiful Gili Islands. Senggigi is a small seaside tourist village, its ok for a quick stop over, but it does not appeal for a longer stay. When you drive over the hills Senggigi offers stunning scenery, green hills, lush tropical trees, beautiful blue sparkling ocean and many beaches with glittering silver sand. The views were breathtaking, but get close and you will see water bottles floating on the ocean, rubbish on the sides of the road and beaches with litter mixed through the sand. It is so bad I would not even sit on the beach. We watch as a group of local families eat their takeaway meals on the beach, and get up and leave ... read more
