Endless Summer
I will always will be a part of the Endless Summer... I know you love it Ben!! Hello Everyone! Travel has been extensive and internet not redally avaliable all the time. Here is a quick update from Indonesia.
After spending some time in the Gili Islands corey and I decided to go back to Bali and head to Nusa Lombongon, a small island south east of Bali. As we pulled into Mataryam, the capital of Lombok, we hooked up with one of our fellow Canadians, and with one minute to departure back to Bali, we changed our ticket to Kuta, Lombok! Best decision ever!
Kuta, Lombok is a hidden surf spot that draws hundreds of surfers in the high season; but thankfully for us it was still the low. This place has around 15 surf spots all within a 30min scooter ride! We rolled into town and heded right for the ocean. A nice break called Grupuk, south of Kuta; where we hooked up with a french journalist, Stephan, who wrote for 3 surf mags in France and the US and had been coming here for the last 10 years. We caught a boat out to the inside of Grupuk and found a handfull of surfers rippin up the waves. Corey and I hung back a
Hittin' the open road
On my scooter adventure..Olay! bit to wire the action and see how the waves played out. Stephan gave us some tips for tackeling the wave, though it felt like we got pounded more that anything! Ohhh well, you live you learn!
One afternoon I took the scooter out for a cruise through the mts towards a few of the local surf sport. The scenery was amazing so I snapped like a million shots! The road lead me to numerous beaches, the next topping the first. I dodged stray dogs, cats cows and chickens with their offspring, as well as potholes large enough to swallow my bike in one gulp! At the end of the road I found a wrickity bridge that lead me to an amazing beach with a misty scenery. Scooters are the best way to travel! No need for A/C and my tan soubled on the trip!
Corey, Kat and I went out on one of our last days and surfed the inside of Grupuk early in he morning. I rented a 15 year old Mr. Woogge board, wiht channels on the bottom and built in fins. thsi board was an artifact. Stephan was saying that the board was worth
Safe Bridge?!
This thing almost collapsed on me! around 2 grand at home(with some work). Corey and I got out there and paddled our asses off. We caught a few waves, but the highlite was just being out there wiht the surf culture soaking it up. Everyone smiling, cheering and lovin' every minute of it! Our Captain let me borrow his sweet hat for a few photos...but I held on to it for most of the day!
Kuta gets it power from central Lombok and has a tendency of shutting off without warning at any minute. On our last evening we were eating dinner at this restaruant and thre rain started to come. THUNDER LIGHTNING and poof the lights go out; not just our place, the entire town is pitch black. No exaggeration, you couldn't see your hand in fron of your face. The thunder was so loud the locals were jumping. I have never seen it storm like that before. Our Hotel had 7 inches of water throughout the entrance. Sad to leave this place, but the visa is running out.
Back to Kuta, Bali where Corey and I caught some nice waves. I stood up and rode 12 in 2 sessions. I really dont
Local Gas station
The only guy to get gas from in Kuta want to leave! Maybe we will be back here in a few months!?
