I'm beginning to think Indonesia is my 'chill & travel' destination and if you don't want to read this next one it's ok. I understand. Just for my memory, I spent the next four days in Gili Trawangan (the largest of the Gili Islands). Another four days of relaxing next to clear, turquoise waters on bean bags, swimming, sunsets, walking (a bit), beer, ku ku Beamer shots and vodka at the full moon party (even though we didn't make the party - Shane, Alice, Delphine and I) and some time with locals sat on my porch playing guitar and singing. The evening I spent with Mickey, Joe, Ketut and Exel on my porch was pretty awesome. I also found a local warung which made me happy as the drunken nights had pushed the budget over a ... read more

Day 279 (Thurs 13thJune) With my flight at 6am and check in from 4am I decided I would stay awake all night and then when I get to wherever I end up I would sleep the day away. I walked around trying to find a plug socket to charge my computer and keep me entertained for the evening. There was nothing in the domestic terminal but I found one in the international. I sat on the floor watching a film and various episodes of the big bang theory as hundreds of, I’d guess Australians came through the terminal, all with blonde hair, tans and surfboards. At around midnight I headed back to the domestic terminal and sat in the closed KFC dining area and continued my films and tv night. At 4am I headed for check ... read more

So I haven't done this since KL which was 2 countries ago, this could be a long one. We spent 5 days in KL; most people we have met don't rate the city that much but I reckon if they had the tips we did they'd change their tune. My big sis lived there so we got the insider info on what to do which was awesome. We saw Iron Man 3 (meh) in the Pavilion cinema which is at the top of a huge mall, its well bling! Best cinema trip ever – reclining leather armchairs, blankets and waiter service just a button away, all for £12! We also went to the Sky Bar on top of a snazzy hotel and had free cocktails and saw the Petronas Towers and we went to an indoor ... read more

We always knew we wanted to spend the last part of our trip on a beach, so that we could go home with good tans and feel relaxed, and since we decided a few weeks back to make Indonesia our last country, we couldn't think of a better place in the sun to end our beach time than the beautiful Gili islands. Once we managed to tear ourselves away from lovely Ubud and got a good deal on tickets for the fast boat, which was very smooth, we arrived on Gili Trawangan, the biggest of the three Gili islands (although it is only 7km around the whole island so still very small). As soon as we got off the boat and saw the crystal clear waters and white sand, we remembered just how much we had ... read more

From Ubud, I had planned to go to Lombok (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lombok), an island just to the east of Bali and so I booked a shuttle bus and boat to get there, for 250.000 IDR (I booked it with Ketut, the woman who ran the hostel I was staying in). It took about 1 hour to get to the small harbour in Sanur, get the ticket and then 1 hour ride on the fast boat (a ferry takes about 5 hours, but it's cheaper). The boat stopped in all 3 Gili Islands (Trawangan, Meno and Air) and then stopped in Lombok (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gili_Islands). In Lombok, I was the only person disembarking and then had to negotiate a taxi to get to Senggigi, a popular beach in Lombok and where I thought I had the best chance to book other ... read more

Next up was Gili Trawangan, this is a very small island off the coast of Lombok, Gili literally means Small Island, but this collection of 3 islands tends to be known just as the Gili’s. Gili T is the biggest and has a reputation for being the most party island of the three. The island is only tiny, about 3km by 2km, all perfect white sand and coral reefs and no cars, sounds dreadful! Getting to Gili T involved the most expensive boat yet! About 40 quid each and it was a bit of a minefield. These boats have varying safety records, some do sink and the Lombok straight is a rough and dangerous bit of water, so we splashed the cash for the most reputable we could find. This paid off though as we had ... read more

Gelassen schauen wir ... read more

Day One We arrived on Gili T around 11:00am which meant we had most of the day to find out what this place is really about! Guess what... there are NO motorized vehicles. Just bikes and cidomo's. A cidomo is a horse drawn carriage and I don't think they are any better than motorcycles, they honk their horns but if you don't jump out of the way fast enough, you WILL get trampled. First thing we did was settle in at Rumah Hantu, a cute place we found. Tyler was sold as soon as he saw the hammock hanging in front of our room and heard eggs were included in the complementary breakfast. Then it was straight to the beach!! By that time it was midday so the beach was packed with people. We found a ... read more

It's been just over a full month since we got to Indonesia and there are a couple of milestones that should be acknowledged. Tyler has been travelling for about 32 days and has not had a single injury! Yay Tyler! This is definitely the longest either of us has been travelling. Every day going forward will be a new record for us and if our trip goes as planned we will have been away from home for over 240 days. (sorry for the reminder Mom, I love you – only like 200 more days until I book my flight home!) I cannot believe how much we have learned and accomplished already. We have climbed active volcanoes (as in more than one), partially learned a different language, witnessed once-in-a-lifetime sunrises and sunsets, walked on ancient bricks that ... read more

On the morning of January 31st, myself and Aoife took a "fast boat" Bali to Gili Trawangan, the largest of the three 'Gili Islands'. The trip was around an hour and a half and we were glad to reach land after a fairly ropey boat ride. The driver was a lunatic and was flying through the massive waves. There was a good few people getting sea sick. I had to look away or I would have been sick just looking at them. Safety is not their strong point in Indonesia and there are many boating accidents. The Gili islands was definitely our most anticipated place to visit, the pictures we had seen and the stories we had read before going there set our expectations high for an idyllic paradise. There are three islands, Gili T, Gili ... read more
