As we all know "semen" is a substance which requires the fertility of a partner in order to transform itself and grow. This says nothing about the magical power of Javanese "Semen", with a capital S, however. The mystical aura of Semen originates from a now famous dukun of Gresik in East Java. His Semen flattens forests, permanently covers valleys, provides foundations for homes and shoots itself arrogantly into the sky under the flesh of the world's tallest structures. It is perhaps one of modern man's most visible and powerful substances. We really just might still be in the stone age without it. Without Semen I mean of course. In my own country a substance known as cement plays a near identical role in paving and constructing our way of life.
Starting with the seemingly endless city of Semen in Jakarta flowing along its highways and city streets, it stabilizes homes and thrusts upwards into the heavens of central Jakarta. Looking out over the capital, the phallus-like Monas monument, would never be able to lift itself so high into the sky without such generous quantities of Semen. Other cities in Indonesia are not quite so blessed as Jakarta with such
a grossly majestic rise of this phenomenal stuff.
Outside Jakarta, no one has benefited from their seemingly astronomical store of Semen than the kingdom of Semen Gresik in its capital of Gresik. Near Surabaya, where the Gresik dynasty (ie company name) originates, a huge factory sits near the water. The denizens of Gresik, once known for the great trade of their port, can now pat themselves on the back and beam with pride knowing their prodigy and name are "Building the Country" and providing a "great role in supplying the needs of the infrastructure industry" wherever Semen Gresik dynasty banners present themselves throughout the land. Perhaps it is only a matter of time before other countries in the region and the world are graced with the rabbitlike potency of Javanese Semen.
Not even the polygamous kings of Javanese royalty with their families numbering in the hundreds or thousands, supported on the backs of hard working rice farmers, could top the prodigious fertility of Semen, founded on the backs of rice eating construction workers.
There is an enduring vitality to the Semen kingdom of the Gresiks in Indonesia that the former kingdoms of bamboo, wood, stone and brick
just cannot match. Former Javanese kings, if they could live today, would be amazed to see that the Semen kingdom of Gresik is even more widespread and visible than their legendary micro-empires of Sri Vijaya, Majadphit and Mataram ever were.
Even if Semen one day is overcome by a superior substance, its legacy will be much easier to see for our later generations than the less enduring building materials of earlier civilizations. The "Semen" of their day has nearly dried up and diminished in potency. Older monuments to times past live on as tourist attractions but not as places where anyone actually lives. Semen, on the contrary houses hundreds of millions. After all, viagra, perhaps one of the secret ingredients of Javanese Semen (?), is a product of only the current age. But perhaps the dukun, a product of earlier traditions has kept a secret or two up his sleeve. One hopes that Semen doesn't have a secret recipe that is 'finger lickin good' in order to learn the secret ingredients.
With an annual demand of 17 million tons of Semen and a current capacity of 19.5 million tons and 80 percent of the Indonesian market, the Gresik
kingdom is "poised for more growth". "Inflation," seen by the deluded as works of evil people in the American Federal Reserve Bank and the folks at the European Central Bank, will surely release pent-up demand and tower over the many salacious opportunities for continuing ecstatic growth in Indonesia.
As we all know, the production of "Semen" is a "resource intensive industry." This means, that like rice, many natural resources will be necessary for further expansion. Unlike rice, less labor will be required. And unlike semen, no partner is necessary for growth, only a continued supply of nutrients. One wonder's what nutrients brings forth such prodigious quantities of Semen. Surely it isn't rice alone.
Only Java's Ring of Fire, its endless supply of volcanoes, perhaps contains more explosive power than the Semen of the Gresik kingdom. When one looks out over the dominating principality of Jakarta one does not doubt Semen's reach and overwhelming aura of dominion. But in the shadows of the fiery, volatile but lush Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta, such certainty must be more comparatively measured.
As is often the case in Indonesia, other great kingdoms will undoubtedly play a significant part in determining the futures
Slums
One of the potential growth areas for Semen in the city, but less favored then the villages in the countryside. of the great Semen Gresik kingdom. For now, Javanese/Indonesian "Semen" is king of the lands.
(This is but a fictional tale using the name and some of the details of a real company in Indonesia. It was not written for profit or to defame anyone but just for fun. Due to the possible regional or global reach of the company, the story that follows might suggest the use of an alternative to the current spelling of the company name especially if it is intent on an international reach. Names such as Semen Gresik to Seemen Gresik, Seamen Gresik, Cmen Gresik, etc are probably not going to do it but you get the idea. In any case, the narrow reaches of this blog are undoubtedly far too small to make such a difference. But hopefully it is good for a laugh or two.)
