We had a very lazy day, sunbathing by the pool, then on the beach, then back to the pool as it was way too hot on the beach. Early evening we retired to the Rollins’ room and lounged on their terrace. Drinks and refreshments were supplied by the Hosts and we were all sad that we were leaving the next day. Saturday 3 February 2007 Our last day in Bali - Bob gave Chris and I a tour of the hotel gardens, they were spectacular, but I wanted to get back to the beach and savour the views and sights. We will never forget those lovely breakfasts - large portions of everything we desired, then waiting for the cook to freshly cook the eggs to add the finishing touch to the sausage, bacon, beans, tomatoes and ... read more

We sunbathed by the pool then the beach, until lunchtime then went on our half day Bali Tour. We visited a Batic factory, the royal Taman Ayun temple in Mengwi (built in 1624) and the holy monkey forest near Sangeh. We saw lots of baby monkeys, real cute, but had to be careful as the adults monkeys did jump up on onto people’s shoulders expecting to be fed, and we were warned they may bite. We enjoyed beautiful views of picturesque rice terraces, and large plantations growing vanilla, chocolate, coffee, cloves. We even ventured across a rice paddie field, it was very muddy and after the walk, the guide informed us cobras did lurk around these type of fields (he said this with a big grin across his face). The tour ended at famous Tanah Lot. ... read more

We had breakfast and met the guide, Gregor and we all booked a ½ day tour of the island and just the girls booked a session at a massage parlour in Denpasur Then we went exploring around Sanur village and met the locals. The Balinese were so happy and friendly. We were able to barter for everything that took our fancy. Between us we bought watches, necklaces, sunglasses case and other novelties, the men purchased Bali shirts for our Wednesday night out of a Balinese meal complete with traditional dancers. It was so hot we went back for a swim in sea and the pool. There were two swimming pools. One with a swim-up bar and the other with a cold dip, jacuzzi and a magnificent stone-carved replica of Goa Gajah, (Elephant Cave "Goa Gajah", a ... read more

OUR WEDDING DAY We had met up with our wedding co-ordinator the day before the wedding, Eni, who was really fantastic and such a good laugh. She showed us around the grounds of the hotel along with the Manager so we could choose where we wanted to get married. We chose a really nice spot by the small pool where there would be enough of a walk way for the aisle, enough space for the Balinese band to play in and enough privacy for us to have the perfect wedding. Our wedding was put forward an hour to 3pm. We both had to go to the British Consulate in the morning to swear an oath and also obtain all the documentation we need in order for this to be a legal marriage. We spent an hour ... read more

We flew from Singapore airport in the evening and arrived in Bali just after midnight. We were so relieved to leave rainy Singapore behind and hopefully get a little bit of a tan for our wedding day. As soon as we landed and went through to get our luggage our stress had already begun. Kerry left Stu to get the bags off whilst she went to get a trolley. Kerry knew from past experience never to let any porters take your bags off you as they will expect to be paid. Unfortunately Kerry forgot to warn Stu of this and 2 airport porters grabbed our bags off Stu just as Kerry had pulled up with the trolley, chucked them on the trolley and tried to take us to the door. They had literally pushed the trolley ... read more

Once arriving at the Denpasar, Bali airport we collected our bags and headed to the taxi stand. The taxi stand has set prices depending on location. I love this because it takes the hassle out having to bargain and not knowing if you are being ripped off. We stayed at Mercure Resort Sanur, which is a beach resort with Balinese style huts for the hotel rooms. The place is nice but we were disappointed to not have internet access in the room, since we choose the resort for that reason as their website advertised it. Our plan was to hole up for 5-6 days and let Scott work on his research paper. After a few days I stumbled across the information that some rooms were equipped with internet, so I complained and threatened to check out ... read more

It has been almost a month since our wedding on September 5th, and the time has flown! The last guests left on September 15th, so we have been spending the last two weeks winding down from all the action and having a honeymoon in the Gili Islands off Lombok. The wedding was actually a lot of fun. I had always thought that the bride and groom were not really supposed to enjoy the wedding, too busy being stressed, but I was pleasantly surprised. After much research, we decided to have the wedding in the gardens of the Hyatt hotel followed by a reception at one of our favourite beachside restaurants. The wedding was at 5pm, but we had some photos taken in the lush tropical grounds of the Hyatt beforehand. We had planned it to be ... read more

Before the wedding of course came the Stag / Hen night in Kuta. It had been decided that the hen and stag party would be combined as all the guests had travelled a long way and wanted to stay together. It began with a meal at La Cabana Restaurant in Kuta. After the meal we all wandered around until we came across a nice quiet bar. Not for long! The barmen looked so bewildered when over 25 people arrived all at once, that Michelle from New Zealand joined in making cocktails! No-one knew who owed what but it all got sorted out somehow. The day of 'recovery' before the wedding was spent at Dreamland Beach where I nearly got washed away! The sea had turned VERY rough and made it extremly difficult to get out ... read more
