OUR WEDDING DAY
We had met up with our wedding co-ordinator the day before the wedding, Eni, who was really fantastic and such a good laugh. She showed us around the grounds of the hotel along with the Manager so we could choose where we wanted to get married. We chose a really nice spot by the small pool where there would be enough of a walk way for the aisle, enough space for the Balinese band to play in and enough privacy for us to have the perfect wedding. Our wedding was put forward an hour to 3pm. We both had to go to the British Consulate in the morning to swear an oath and also obtain all the documentation we need in order for this to be a legal marriage. We spent an hour by the pool before both heading off in different directions to get ready. It has to be said that Stu was very relaxed and chilled out whilst Kerry was getting more and more nervous by the second.
3pm arrived and Eni came to collect Kerry and her mum from the room to lead them down to the ceremony where everybody was waiting. There
was only 8 of us (Kerry’s Mama, Lynda, Stu’s Mama and Papa Linda and Nev, Stu’s sister, Rowena and Kerry’s best mate from Skeggy Fiona and her fella Alan) in total but many of the guests from the hotel were there watching which was nice. The band consisted of 3 balinese men sitting in the garden next to us playing some really clinky clunky tunes - it was perfect for what we wanted and added that little bit more culture to the whole ceremony. The setting where we were married was decorated in Balinese style décor and a couch for us to sit on so that we faced everyone when saying our vowes. The priest who carried out the religious protestant ceremony was also extremely good and that part lasted approximately 15 minutes. We then had to have a civil ceremony which only lasted about 5 minutes. We had a photographer who took some really good pictures of us on the beach, around the pool (see pics) but managed to print out the worst ones for the album that we were given. After the pictures had been taken we all went for a drink to try and cool down as
it was exceptionally hot in all our togs. We had organised for our reception to take place on a yacht where we would have a 5 course meal and enjoy a cruise for 3 hours. We also organised for a live band to join us on the boat so we could have a little bit of cheese mixed in. We set sail at 6pm, took a seat, had our welcome drinks only be told that “unfortunately the boat had left without the band!!” We circled for 20 minutes until in the distance a little speed boat came flying up to us with all the band and their instruments in tow. It was really surreal, almost like something off the milk tray advert. The band certainly made up for it though as they were fantastic and immediately got everybody in the mood for a good night. The band was a quartet who knew all of the songs that we requested. They even knew Korean and Japanese songs for a couple of the other guests on the boat. After an hour of cruising we were escorted downstairs for our meal and the band followed to serenade us throughout our meal. Unfortunately Stu’s
Mama didn’t feel very well at all and had to sit it out on one of the couches. The meal was also fabulous and the service was spot on. Rowena got up with the band at one point and gave us a rendition of More than Words by Extreme. Nev opened the cards and made a really touching speech by welcoming Kerry into the family and offering a few sage words of wisdom. Stu also got up and gave a bit of a speech (although he didn’t prepare one it was actually quite good!), followed by Rowena on behalf of Mama who still was not feeling too well at this point. The cruise ended around 9pm where we returned to the resort for a few beers at a nearby bar.
We had a fantastic day and it could not have been any more perfect. We would like to thank our families and friends for coming out and making our wedding day such a great day.
Sorry to all of those who could not make it but we are sure we will bore you all with more pictures when we get back!
