Well, since Kimi basically filled you all in about our previous travels, i thought it might be time I quickly let you know what ive been up to. Since Kimi and Hannah wanted to stay in Padang Bai, I went off (as kimi said allready) to Lovina, Sanur and Nusa Lembongan. Met 3 really nice German people in Lovina, and with them I've been on a motorbike trip to waterfalls, Hot springs and other random places around Lovina. The only thing is that after that one day of driving around on the motorbike, you have basically seen everything that Lovina has got to offer, so after one day I went on to Sanur. Sanur isnt a place where I would go for a long time. There are a lot of hotels and sunbeds everywhere, and after ... read more

Current Mood: Overwhelmed Well where did i leave off? Ahh yes sipping Bintang and eating some sort of Goerang. It was tasty but i had to move on. Last Wednesday which would have been the 10th or so we left Kuta in search of tranquility and oh my Buddha did we find it. Jumping on your typical hot, Asian, sweat fest Bus we made for Sanur where we were to catch our Ferry to my newest destination, Nusa Lembongan. Nusa Lembongan is set just to the south west of Bali and is a lovely 1 hour boat ride across. the boat was a type of Catamaran but no Lumpraya that many of my friends know well. This is a wooden version with all of the features you expect in South Eastern Asian Travel (pigs, Chickens and ... read more

Lembongan is kinda like a mini Bali, or what Bali would have been like back before tourism blew up. Its quiet and beautiful but still has plenty of Balinese cultural flair. Here we found the best snorkeling on the entire trip. On Matt's birthday, we hired a guy (named Ketut, of course) to drive us around in his fishing boat to a few snorkeling spots around Lembongan. For a couple of hours. All for the excellent price of $10. Not only was it nice to have our own boat that came and went when we wanted it to, it but it was also amazing to be taken to untouched reefs teeming with fish and alive soft corals without the bother of large tourist boats or very little boat traffic at all. In addition to this, we ... read more

Hello, So, after leaving Singapore, and upon the recommendation of numerous Aussies, I headed down to Bali. Due to delays, I ended up arriving at about 1 in the morning, which is obviously not ideal. I ended up getting a taxi into Kuta for the night with another couple off the plane. Once there, we spent ages looking for a cheap, available hotel, as it was late, so everyone was either just saying "full" and going back to sleep, or trying to charge us around 200,000 Rupiah. Eventually we found one for 150,000 which was still a lot, but by that time we didn't care so much. After chucking down our bags, we did what was expected of us (being in Kuta) and went out to buy some beers before hitting the beach. This turned out ... read more

Day 29, November 10th, we had an early morning start for a cooking class at Bumbu Bali. The class started with a visit to the local produce market and then to the Jimbaran fish market. It was really great to learn about all the different ingregients and understand what foods you find in a typical Balinese market. Then we headed back to the cooking compound to learn to cook 26 different traditional Balinese dishes. It was a fun interactive class led but the energetic Swiss ower, Heinz. He has lived in Bali for over 20 years and is married to a local woman. After Heinz walked us through his favorite dishes and the key components of balinese cooking we indulged in an amazing lunch. We surfed Uluwatu at sunset to get some exercise after a day ... read more

(Wouldn’t it be nice to think that I was still in Indonesia? Instead, thanks to a combined lack of motivation and rupiah, this entry is coming to you post-jetlag, from a public library in Salamanca. But for the sake of this final post, I invite you to imagine I’m still in dreamy, honey-scented, dripping-in-green Bali - god knows I am.) Early one drizzly morning, I packed up my things and bid Ubud an affectionate farewell, promising to return sooner rather than later, especially since according to some of the locals, I missed visiting the finer sights in the city - “Forget the centuries-old temples, I want to see the café where Julia Roberts took her banana smoothies!” After a short ride to Sanur and a hop, skip and a wave across the Badung straight, I arrived ... read more

Nusa Lembongan (7/6/2010 to 10/6/2010) Our last trip in Indonesia was to Nusa Lembongan Island. It takes about an hour to get there by ferry from Bali. We went with Andy's brother Mike and by strange coincidence, bumped into mates from Perth at the ferry terminal in Bali. We knew they were in Bali but had no way to contact them and had tried searching for them at their hotel with no luck. Nusa lembongan is known for its surf, diving and seaweed farming... thats right, they actually farm seaweed!! At high tide the seaweed is covered by water but on low tide the water disappers revealing a patchwork of seaweed paddocks at various spots around the island. The seaweed is farmed for cosmetic and medicinal purposes. The day we arrived we all hired scooters and ... read more

After all of the diving that Scott had been doing in the Philippines, we decided that I had to get some dives under my belt before attempting the famously current-filled diving at Komodo. After a day of running errands in Kuta and catching up with friends from a prior trip over a cool sunset Bintang, we headed north on Bali to Lovina. Our Perama bus climbed over the beautiful green mountain scenery and stopped for a short break in a mountain village which was a lovely 10 degrees cooler than the coast. I even had to put a sweatshirt on for a few minutes! On the way back down the mountains, our bus suddenly stopped unexpectedly. The driver pulled out and inspected all of the fuses and then opened the engine and hammered around a bit. ... read more

Bali After some thoughts and lazy discussions at the beach bar back in Koh Samui a few of us decided that travelling by bus from Thailand through Malaysia and Indonesia was looking increasingly tiresome and so we decided that the best thing to do would be to fly onto different destinations and meet later in Bali. Apart from that, one of the guys was hoping to dive whilst out here, so his decision was easy. So that was it, decision made and a couple of us would fly to Bali and go our separate ways. I was off to Nusa Lembongan, a couple staying in Bali and Liam to Phuket for some diving before spending 2 weeks on a diving boat. As in Phuket the landing is an interesting one as you fly in low and ... read more
