Being already at Sanur, it made perfect sense to take the quick 1h boat ride eastwards to the island of Nusa Lembongan, the smallest of a cluster of three that lies just offshore. This was where LP promised lay "the Bali that people imagine, but never really find". Before that though was a matter a boarding the slowboat. Because of an absence of proper piers at Sanur beach, the slowboat berthes slightly offshore in waist-high waters. So getting on is a matter of timing your approach in between the approaching and receding waves. Despite the crew's best intentions of assistance, I failed miserably at this test and boarded with soaking wet shorts. That wouldn't ruin my stay at Lembongan though. After a great stay in Labuan Bajo, we landed on Bali without getting our feet wet, and went straight on to the small island of Lembongan where we stayed for 10 nights. Regarding wet feet, a plane from the same airline as ours missed the landing zone, and ended up in the ocean. Fortunately no one got serious hurt as far as we are aware. I was a bit excited about returning to Lembongan after spending more than 3 months on the island back in the summer of 2010. Let me put it briefly: Just great. It was great to come back and meet up with all the friends from World-Diving and Pondok Baruna. Also meeting with Alex and Birgit from Labuan Bajo (and Switzerland) was really good. To be honest, my initial planning was different. I wanted to spend more time on the main island, explore Bali and what the island has to offer. But I had made friends on Nusa Lembongan with Evy, Purana and the other guys... And this drew me more than travelling alone on Bali... And I was so absolutely right. Not only two more nice dives but even more important meeting the guys again that I really got to like during a few days there. Nusa Lembongan gets you! Spending a few wonderful relaxed days on that beautiful island. Diving in the morning, zipping around on a motorbike in the afternoons... Excellent! And, most important of it all, spending these times with a friend, Evy. Just a friend, but incredibly great.... read more
