Lembongan
The nice highstreet of Lembongan After a great stay in Labuan Bajo, we landed on Bali without getting our feet wet, and went straight on to the small island of Lembongan where we stayed for 10 nights. Regarding wet feet, a plane from the same airline as ours missed the landing zone, and ended up in the ocean. Fortunately no one got serious hurt as far as we are aware.
I was a bit excited about returning to Lembongan after spending more than 3 months on the island back in the summer of 2010. Let me put it briefly: Just great. It was great to come back and meet up with all the friends from World-Diving and Pondok Baruna. Also meeting with Alex and Birgit from Labuan Bajo (and Switzerland) was really good.
Our days on Lembongan were primarily concentrated on diving and short scooter trips. We did many dives with the graceful manta rays. Unfortunately we didn’t encounter any on the cleaning station but we were richly compensated with feeding manta rays in Manta Bay. We saw up till 15 individuals on one dive. They are fairly big animals with a wingspan between 2 meters for the babies till 3½ meters for the
Money
Nice beeing a millionaire bigger ones. The experience with manta rays is hard to describe. It has to be experienced. For non divers we can recommend snorkeling. It is also excellent.
We went for a nice day tour to the neighbor island of Nusa Penida together with Alex and Birgit. We rented two scooters and off we went. On this island you’ll find no tourists and almost no road signs, so we had to improvise a little. However we managed to find the cave temple. We had a great timing. As we entered the cave, the rain started pouring down. When we excited, the rain stopped. Maybe our blessing in the temple helped. We went on into the highlands and saw a beautiful landscape and passed a few nice villages. After having asked for directions about 20 times we found the ladder leading us 200 vertical meters down to the ocean on the south side of Nusa Penida. After a bit of down climbing we reached the natural pools and could cool of a bit with a stupendous view to the sea cliffs. After climbing up again and driving for 45 minutes we hit Crystal Bay. It was nice being cooled down in

On Lembongan we enjoyed the great food on “The Beach Club”, Indiana Kenanga, Pondok Baruna and the small local DB Warung, where the chicken was really good and cheap. Not a bad combination. We also had to visit Ketut for the good massages. Another happy return.
We finished off with dinner at John and Sue’s house (the owners of World-Diving) together with Sarah, the new instructor. The house is fantastic and has one of the best views on Lembongan. The food might have been the best we had on the whole trip, so what more can you ask for?
The days on Lembongan went far too fast and it was with a touch of sadness that we said goodbye to all of our local friends and Alex and Birgit.
Next stop was Tulamben, where we stayed in OceanSun dive basis. It was a very good place and gave us excellent value for money. The diving was great with many nice underwater encounters like the big school of bumphead parrotfish on the Liberty wreck, pigmy seahorses, harlequin shrimps and a lot of action on the many cleaning
Penida Island
South coast of Nusa Penida Island seen from the big boat stations. The food was a fusion between the German and Indonesian kitchen, so both Inge and Christian were happy.
After 3 nights in Tulamben we finished our Bali leg with one night in Sanur and a goodbye dinner at Massimos with pepperoni pizza for Christian and the excellent chicken for Inge. Well, we shouldn’t forget the last massage of the trip and Christian even got a nice haircut for less than 2 Euro. The Danish hairdressers could learn a bit here.
We finished our big trip with two nights in Singapore. We chose to visit Singapore Zoo. The highlights were the panda bears, the white tigers and the dugongs. The zoo is pretty nice but we have to conclude, that we do prefer to see animals in the wild. It is really sad that so many kind of animals are under threat of extinction, so there is no doubt about, that many zoo’s do a good job in preserving endangered species as well as educating the public. We highly recommend supporting organizations like the WWF.
We met with a former colleague from Jyske Bank, and we had a nice time with dinner in one of the street

On our very final day we once again went to the city center. We said goodbye to the fantastic Marina Sands complex. We looked at the skyline with a blue sky and we went up to the top in One Raffles Place 282 meters above the sea level. This is the tallest building in Singapore and we had splendid views 360 degrees around this great city. We also revisited the beautiful shopping centers in Orchard Road and Christian had his last burger on Mcdonalds.
We finished a great day off with a Singapore Sling in the famous Raffles hotel. We also ate peanuts and followed the tradition by throwing the shells on the floor.
This was a fine ending to a great adventure of 7 months travelling in Asia. It has been a big success with so many highlights that it would be impossible to single out any. Yet we can conclude that one thing we always will remember, are the many nice people we have met on our way. You have contributed a lot to our great experiences. We also won’t forget all
