Geo: -8.72412, 115.17Bali. First time in almost 2 months that i have a room for myself again. Needless to say i slept great :) ShoppingDay. What better spot than Kuta?! ;) First i looked around for tours to Komodo but realized it's actually better to find a flight to Flores first and book the tour from there. Then i bought replacement swim shorts for the ones which got stolen in the Whitsundays. Half prize compared to Australia. To my surprise, the biggest challenge was to find an alarm clock. (since Apple broke my iPod) What do Balinese wake up to??? Finally found some in the local department store. But they wanted US$35! No way! So i ventured into the side street stores and a guy who tried to sell me T-shirts went home to get me ... read more

After the hidiously early start for our flight, we were finally on our way to Bali, all good! Until Rach started throwing up on the plane....good times! So on arrival in Kuta i spent the day in bed...or in the bathroom! Made it out for tea on the evening and that never stayed down. Then following this James stared too, so unfortunately we spent most of the first two days in Kuta laid up in bed, we think we both had some iffy food but from different places. On the third day we were both feeling well enough to get ourselves down to the beach and just generally out for the day. Kuta's popular with surfers, and it's especially popular with those learning to surf. The beach is long, wide and sandy and the sea is ... read more

Hey everyone, Welcome to my travel blog! Hope you enjoy reading it and I'll try and keep it updated as much as possible. After an amazing year in Australia, where Amy and I landed in Sydney and worked for 4 months, travelled NZ for a month, went our seperate ways for awhile (Amy to South Australia and me to Tasmania), we then reunited in Melbourne where we worked for a further 4 months and then had an amazing time travelling the East coast with our friend Tina. Now we are all travelling through Asia together and we currently have our friend Katie with us who we met on the Kiwi experience in NZ. We flew from Perth to Bali on the 20th August (the day mine and Amy's visas expired), I felt sad about leaving Aus ... read more

The 4 nigths we spent in Kuta, Bali were completely different from Bunaken. We went from a remote location with few tourists to millions of tourists all milling around with varying colours of Bintang tops. It took us a while to get a taxi to get us to our requested road and then a good hour walking round to find somewhere to stay. We ended up staying in Ayu Beach Hotel with 4 of us in a really nice room. There were 2 pools and breakfast was included too. The first 2 days we spent walking around, sunbathing and shopping and then a night out to Sky Garden which is where everyone ends up at some point. This place is huge and Connie got lost trying to get back to one of the roof terraces. We ... read more

Our first night in Kuta consisted of steps bars, “happy hours” every hour and a sketched portrait of Tyler. We got to Kuta around 11:00am Sunday, settled in at a pretty sweet hotel with an infinity pool and air conditioning for $15/night. Huge splurge for the birthday boy who insists on celebrating his birthday for a week. Immediately we found food (pizza, yumm) and made it to the beach. We laid in the sun right by those beautiful waves for hours. It was fantastic! After the beach, we came back to change and admire our new bronze glow before heading out for a fun night. The main street to get drinks is Jalan Legian and we found two for one drinks at a place with wifi so decided to hang out there for a couple hours ... read more

Kuta Umm Kuta, not much to say really…..this is a short blog. We expected the worst, we had been there before, read recent blogs, and talked to tourists on the road, so we made the most of it and it was actually OK. Not sure if I was on my annual 2 week holiday I would appreciate wasting my days in Kuta. Overall its pretty grotti really. We stayed at the Quest which was fantastic value in Kuta. Big clean room with swimming pool and we could easily walk to town and the malls. The beach was surprisingly nicer than we remembered, behind a long high wall hidden from the street, and crowded with loungers and umbrellas – reminded me of Goa in India. Nice big waves, lots of surfers. Nice shopping mall that opens out ... read more

Another loooong journey, first 1h ferry from Banyuwangi at the easternmost tip of Java, to Gilimanuk on the westernmost tip of Bali. This was followed by a painful 4h slow bus ride through the winding and narrow roads of Bali to Denpasar. Locals of course smoke perpetually on the bus, so along with the sulphur poisoning from Ijen, I've now also inhaled bucketloads of passive cigarette smoke (Dji Sam Soe!). Final leg was another 45 min bemo ride from Denpasar, finally to Kuta. Stayed at the Waringin Homestay (nice place! though not a true homestay, really just another hotel/ guesthouse).... read more

Een ... read more

What a lovely birthday in Bali! I slept in for the first time since my whole trip started and it felt so nice! I had breakfast and layed by the pool, had a nice lunch, and went off to the beach to meet up with Chris, the local who taught me how to surf. From Kuta, we headed to Nusa Dua beach. The beach was nice with clear blue warm water. Its definitely less touristy and very quiet. It was there I realized I lost my sunglasses :( Sigh. Oh well. After about an hour, we went off to another beach that was lovely. You basically walk down through a cave and as soon as you're out of it, the cave opens up to a beautiful, white sandy beach. It was gorgeous! We sat, enjoyed the ... read more
