Gosh...I realised it had been ages since I updated my seven wonders of the world series. Yes, some hiccups here and there causing the delay and busy is not the word I like to use even if this is the case.
BALI... This beautiful island holds a special place in my heart, not because of my Indonesian heritage, but because it's a fantastic place. It was the best place where I relaxed from my recent trips to 3 long-distance counties within three weeks. Something about Bali that calls for relaxation, which my brain could not say no to. I couldn't resist the vibrations of its beautiful nature, the friendliness of its people and the finest cuisines.
I find myself in complete relaxation mode, unwinding from my hectic Amsterdam routines whenever I am in Bali. Whether it's next to a pool, at a beach, or just chilling at a local warung. I love spending my time lying on a beach in the shade of an umbrella whilst sipping cold and icy watermelon juice after a long swim in a calming sea.
During my stay, I indulged myself in all sorts of relaxation programs in Benoa Bay for five days.
I took an amazing five-star studio apartment with an incredible backyard. To complete it, I treated myself with two hrs of daily massage, girly stuff medi-pedi, facial, hair vitamin treatments, wining, dining, beaching, swimming, sleeping, and anything that does not involve much physical movement. Oh no, it ain't cheap to do nothing in Bali.
After a few days of pampering my arse, my adventurous side started craving productive activities. So, I took a stroll and found myself a travel kiosk agent. I decided on the spot to hop on a day tour to Nusa Penida the next day. A driver from the Bali office picked me up early in the morning and then dropped me off at the ferry port.
Upon my arrival, a local driver from the island had already waited to escort me to Kelingking beach with a few other places I had signed up to see. On the way to Kilingking, we cross small villages where the scenery and nature of the island are unbelievable. The road to get around is up hills, and you can see the blue waters beneath the blue sky from a distance peeking through the palm bushes. A few warungs,
B&B, cafes and shops on side roads are conveniently ready to host tourists whenever in need.
I feel that the weather in Nusa Penida was warmer than in Bali. There was no sea breeze blowing over the island. Mind you, my tolerance to heat is very low, so the weather out there may not be so hot for some of us. Anything to do with Nusa Penida is worth going through various weather conditions. No words can describe the beauty and purity of its island, and I hope it remains unique.
I would definitely recommend Nusa Penida if you seek a peaceful trip. Kelingking beach is the highlight of the island. The beautiful white sandy beaches are very welcoming. I didn't stay there long as the group and I had to depart for our last destination, Crystal bay beach, a beautiful beach with black sand and blue water.
I took a long dip, floating on the surface and let the gentle waves from the sea sweep my body to the shore and back into the sea. A beanbag on the shoreline awaits as I inhale all the goodness around me. It feels so nice lying under the
beach umbrella after a lot of fun in the water. I love hearing the waves crashing down while closing my eyes and feeling the sun on my skin. Somehow, the sea and sun work together as soul energy for me. A healing spirit that helped clear my mind of past and future thoughts and to be more present.
That said, there is an end to each beginning. Before I knew it, I had to return to Bali for the last night before returning to Amsterdam (the part where I like to skip). Although the feeling of returning to routine is not exciting, I remind myself that travel has always been a part of me, and I will always continue. This passion enables me to learn more about the world, people and culture, which I will not exchange for anything else. Now it's time that you chuck Indonesia on your bucket list.
