Amongst all the treks in Uttarakhand, Dayara Bugyal is considered to be the most breathtaking. The trek brings us to a highland meadow situated in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand which stands tall at an elevation of 10,000-12,500ft. This lush green expanse of meadows serves as an excellent destination for skiing during winter and is spread over 28 sq km. This breathtaking location is nestled amidst towering snow-peaked mountains. While on this memorable Himalayan Dayara Bugyal trekking tour in India at Uttarkhand, catch sight of the lake of Barnala Tal strewn across the green alpine prairies– in whose reflection the peaks look even more beautiful. The trek starts from the tiny hamlet of Barsu nestled on the Haridwar-Gangothri road which is 32 kms from Uttarkashi. One can settle in any one of the rest-houses or GMVN ... read more

Next day morning we started our journey toward Gongotri around 7:30. Earlier we were planning to stay in Gangotri, but on the day in Yamunotri and our drive towards Uttarkashi it was raining. We also heard about heavy rains in Gangotri so decided not to stay there but return back to Uttarkashi. Our first stop was at Ganganani. Where there are hotwater springs called (Rishikund). People stop here to take dip in this hotwater springs. Here there are few shops where you can get some woollen items like shawls, socks and head scarfs etc. available at reasonable price. You can see Ganga flowing down as you drive through the mountains. Greenish white river flowing in between the stretches of white pebbles and sand. Among other conifers you can see the Deodar trees. We collected one/two twigs ... read more

Geo: 30.9959, 78.9432Okay so one of the things we as dedicated Hindus are supposed to do in our lifetimes (we have not converted but we are outnumbered so might as well adopt their beliefs) is to hike to the source of the Gangees. The ganges being the holiest river in India and reportedly the source of all life. The Rumor has it that if you bathe at the source of the Ganges, then meditate Shiva will come and enlightenment will follow. Hmm sounds like a plan. So we drive to Gangatori and camp in a carpark construction site. The night guard seemed quite happy to have us and told us we were the first ever to park in the carpark. The next morning after shaking the ice off our tent fly so we could pack it up ... read more

In Indian mythology the Ganges has many names and one of them is Tripathga, meaning you are not just a river but the one that traverses Heaven, earth and beneath the earth to nurture civilizations. True to some extent that no one can see the origin of the Ganges with mortal (physical ) eyes... read more
