... read more

Greetings again Ok so the last time we left you we were headed to a place called Vellore....which we promptly left wthin 30 mins as it seemed not to be a very nice place. this may have been irritated by the fact that I overdosed on Indian coffee (milky & tonnes of sugar) due to the train arriving at 4.00am, hmmm felt sick but was ok by the time we got on the bus to Tiruvannamalai. Nic take it away........ Hi! Dan finally came back down to earth and his shakes slowed and we were on our way!...Made him sit by the window though, just incase! Tiruvannamalai is a nice little town centred around it's temple which was mighty impressive, but other than that there wasn't really alot else to do so we took the opportunity ... read more

The bus ride out of Mettur on Christmas day was long over due. T and I were very ready to move on as we had been there for 2 weeks. Kind of a drone zone. We headed for Tiruvannamalai. Traveling by Indian bus has been for me an enjoyable experience, that is if you don't watch what your driver is doing (they play chicken with the other buses the whole way)! I have been mesmerized just watching the country side roll by and you can see so much this way. The buses are not plush however and the ride can be bumpy. Also some of the buses play non-stop Bollywood movies on video screens at a very high volume. That can be tedious! Upon arriving in Tiru we were excited to see white people! It had ... read more

Hey all again A fair amount's happened since my last update. Leaving Manali was quite disappointing, as it was really the last place on our travelling schedule, and there was a feeling that it was over. The 19 hour bus was comfortable enough, we had one double bed and one seat. Colin still felt a bit ill so me + Katherine took it in turns to use the bed whilst he got it for the whole journey, not that it would have made much difference, it was still bumpy and there were loads of people snoring very loudly. We didn't get much sleep. In Delhi Pirates of the Caribbean was sold out so we had to find ways of burning time. The evening was a bit depressing for me truth be told. For our last meal ... read more

I can't believe how soon it all finishes. 3 months really isn't that long when you think about it. From being alone last week I now have plenty of company. Colin was due to arrive back yesterday morning totally exhausted, which he did. The bigger surprise was Rose deciding that she didn't want to stay in Delhi any longer, and that she'd spend a week in Kanji before meeting her friend Ashley in Chennai before flying home in a couple of weeks. I think she came to this decision on Friday morning. I found out when I was feeling a little sticky, so I took a shower and for some unknown reason took my phone with me just in case, I was due a call from Gemma and Kim. I found out at about 2pm she ... read more

Hi all Nothing's really happened since Friday, but I like to keep you all updated anyhow. I got through a load of 7th stadard letters which are being sent to Rose yesterday, some of them say some sweet stuff, but funnier was an essay I found in Saravanan's book on his hobbies. If you don't know him you won't find it that funny, but I spoke to Rose about it on the phone later and laughed about it. I felt a bit lonely yesterday because nothing was going on, so today I'm come into Tiru where there's some action. I'm about to mark the 8th standard essays in Ushas (yes Kim + Gemma, these are still the ones that they did last Tuesday.) This morning I was caught red handed in the act of trying to ... read more

Hi all I'll start by saying my flight home is now booked for the 11th June, it's due to arrive at Heathrow at 11.35 am. Mum, I'm sorry it's a Monday, but I can easily make it back to Chelmsford by myself if it's really awkward, I even contemplated with Kim + Gemma how fun it would be to make the journey back entirely by myself, although I think the walk back from Eves Corner would be tough and I left my door key at home, so that's probably not a clever idea. Anyway, I'm by myself here at the moment. When I've been busy teaching or making a trip into Tiruvannamalai I've felt fine, but when I have marking or planning and I'm left by myself I miss the company of people a lot, I ... read more

Hey all. If all gets sorted out I fly home in exactly 3 months, but the STA travel website is pretty slow at the moment. On the subject of travelling, we've changed our plans a little bit, and we're now doing Sri Lanka at the start of our travels, in 3 weeks time it will be the 2nd of April and we could be on our 12 hour train to Trivandrm, or we may wish to see Mysore. Anyhow we'll be getting our return flight to Sri Lanka for 75 quid from Trivandrum, around the 4th April, then we'll get back there around 18th and do Kerala etc afterwards. On Friday night we climbed up the 2500 ft or so mountain in Tiru. We're all okay now, I'm clean, awake after 12 hours sleep last night ... read more

Hey all. Not much to say about teaching, it goes on as ever. But there's plenty to say about my camera. There are pictures to go with my update of Bangalore, although only the best ones are there because I took so many. In fact it's a bit embarrassing, I appeared in more of my photos than anyone else! I'll try not to let it happen again. Then there are a couple of pictures from my placement, but I'll add to them over time. Anyway, we had lots of fun in Bangalore, lots of young people having fun. We still got on with everyone and had a lot of fun. It was really like many other nights out I had, building a fort out of frames, mattresses and sheets when we got back to the dorm ... read more

Hello all, My teaching's got much better since I last taught, 7th standard are familiar with me and we can share quite a few laughs together but at the same time we get through the work. The big test is tommorow when I'll see how many out of 31 hand in the first major homework I've set them (which I'll need to have marked by Friday!) I find that in the vast amount of classes I share with Kim (8th once a day, 9th once a day and 4b once a day) I find it naturally ends up with her being more the teacher and me the helper, but we're both happy with how it works and I can always jump if she seems a bit stuck. I'd say that my favourite classes are definitely 7th ... read more
