After Agra Brett and I headed to Jaipur, which is in the North Western state of Rajisthan. This city is hustling with energy and a strong economy. For the most part the begging and such is quite minimal to Agra, but still fairly active. Our Hotel was magnificent as we felt like kings, a little more plush then we needed. Pictures coming soon. We spent the whole day sight seeing yesterday throughout the city and also a visit to the Fort Amber (Ameer) in the outskirts. We really enjoyed the fort as we got lost a number of times in the maze of rooms and courtyards it holds. We hope to put some pictures up soon. We also went to the City palace where the largest silver flasks/pots in the world are held. The king of ... read more

Hello all, (Cindy) This is James entry... Trust you are keeping well. Didn't get to see the Saints pompey game but it sounds like we gave the skate a good thumping! We decided to get an earlier flight to Singapore from Delhi. Arriving here at 5am yesterday morning. We didn't have a problem finding something to do though as there is always somewhere to sit and chill for a while. We are staying in Little India funnily enough! Just stopped by at the Funan Centre. Toys everywhere you look. Cindy chilled out here in the cafe whilst I browsed around all the geeky stuff for a while. Whilst we are here though I thought I'd tell you about some funny things that have happened to us... When we first visited the Taj Mahal we were awestruck, ... read more

After a couple of days of air and train travel we are now in Jaipur, the Pink City. We found a very nice hotel with hot showers, which we both badly needed. I walked out into the courtyard this morning to find monkeys swinging around and peacocks flying about. There seems to be a new suprise everytime I turn around. We took an autorickshaw around the city today with our new friend and driver, Ali. He is a karma believing muslim that is about our age. We explored some ancient buildings and tombs today, including the Hawa Mahal and Amber Fort. We also checked out the Jantar Mantar which is a huge astrological playground full of enormous stone instruments used to map the many celestial beings. Our favorite thing here is the many elephants that inhabit ... read more

There is another ImTrav group at the hotel. (1 fat bloke and a group of whinging women)! I've been eyeing them with disdain! After all we're ADVENTURE CLASS, while they're all whoosy Traveller Class just doing the Golden Triangle, so not fit to clean up after our camels as far as I'm concerned! (Yeah I'm an elitist travel snob I know, but why change the habits of a lifetime)! We ended up going out for another good meal last night, (though more expensive than usual). They had dancers, and at one point I was dragged up to participate. Joan has photos, (and is willing to provide them to anyone interested for a price)!!!!!!! Also along with us last night were Vipal, Paula, Glen and Jamie. (Both Micheal and Nadine felt too ill to attend). Actually I ... read more

I've gotten in the habit recently of riding shotgun on the bus, (i.e. sitting up the front next to the driver). From the point of view of getting plenty of leg room it's great, but you have to have a steady nerve considering the amounts of times we take blind hills and curves, go head to head with lorries, pedestrians, and sacred cows, or have to suddenly swerve off road as occurances allow. Vipal asked if he could borrow my MP3 player for the journey today, and liked my taste in music. WHICH HAS TO BE A FIRST ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!!!! He likes his music does Vipal, (always singing away the latest Bollywood hit to himself), and unlike those elitist bastards back in the developed world understands, (as do I), that variety is the spice ... read more

Thoughts India was a fascinating experience but one of the most intense and physically draining trip we've ever taken (and we have traveled all around the world). There's lots of great things in India like the awesome food, spices, beautiful clothes, culture, history, colors, spirituality but many bad things that hit you in the heart, like the abject poverty, malnourished child beggars with no clothes on, homeless people, intense heat, pollution, lack of sanitation, excrement, garbage everywhere that makes it overwhelming. Where we went We spent our time in the Golden Triangle (New Delhi, Agra & Jaipur) Delhi was an interesting city, especially Old Delhi & the lively streets of Chadni Chowke. We visited the ancient monuments and Gandhi memorials. Loved the memorials to Gandhi. Agra town center was just as chaotic and lively. Taj Mahal ... read more

From Ranthambore NP Kristen and I were firmly travelling together and our first stop was in Jaipur where we saw the pink city and the Tiger fort. Meeting up with Phillipe and Colleen (who were staying up at the fort) at the Astrological gardens and going up to the fort for sunset was lovely. We also went to a small museum with many interesting artifacts. Spending time with Kristen was high on my priorities. ... read more

slept until 12 ish - had lunch on the rooftop; veg noodles. To Jaipur train station to sort tickets out to mumbai (relatively easy) and to get our refund( it was easier and more money than we had thought; Rs 450) Into Jaipur for a while- encountered loads of "baksheesh.... rickshaw...." Emailed prospective hotel in Mumbai and returned to hotel via tut tut (gave in!!) Had evening meal on roof top; sat with 2 itallian men who were good company( one had lived in london during the punk movement!) spent the morning wasting timeas had to check out at 09:00- emailed a few people and went on lonely planet site. Had lunch at usual!!( refreshing point!) bought snacks for the journey. Rang parents- top to speak to them; Rs 300 for approx 9 minutes. To train station for 14:45- took bloody ages to find our carriage.... and when we did , it wasn't long before we heard "problems.... no carriage.... get off!!" Spoke to staion master who told us to "sit anywhere"; sat next to a swiss lad, the carriage was full of soldiers. Eventually the conductor arrived "you must change to another carriage!!" 2 hours later when the train eventually stopped we got off ( nightmare stairs to negotiate to get off the train; Bri nearly decked it) We were led into a carriage ... read more
