Bikaner After a long drive we arrived in Bikaner. looking at the outside of the hotel we decided to try and find somewhere else with air conditioning following the sleepless night the day before. Mr. Singh recommended the Sagar Hotel as "the best hotel in Bikaner" at first glance the room seemed clean and we managed to bargain down the price even of the room. five minutes later however, I couldn't flush the toilet, the tv didn't work and for once we only had hot water. Now as people who know me will know, I have little difficulty in complaining when things aren't as they should be. so five minutes later we had a man come confirm that the toilet indeed wasn't flushing. ten minutes later we had five men and a hammer confirming the bathroom ... read more

It was difficult to leave Pushkar. Very difficult. We were able to find solace in the fact that many of the camels were leaving the fair--more with each day, and that our next destination would include more camels. We left Pushkar early and said goodbye to the Camp Bliss staff. It was like telling friends farewell since we had been the only guests to stay the entire fair and we enjoyed our time so much. We drove to Bikaner and checked into our hotel in the Royal Palace. The Royal Family stays in part of the palace and we are staying in the other part of the palace. Nice digs! Our main reason for going to Bikaner was that it is home to the National Research Center on Camels. We went to the complex to tour ... read more

After a night in Delhi, we had our first proper day exploring the crazy city. From the Jama Masid the largest mosque in India, capable of holding 25 000 people, to the Sikh Gurdwara, Sisganj we experienced both the riches and poverty of Delhi. It's hard to walk past a child who is rubbing his stomach and asking for food when you have been told not to do it as it would only cause more trouble. However the Gurdwara was an amazing place, all of us were fascinated by the singers and the overall nature of the Sikh religion, by which everyone is equal and where all group together to help the poor in need. Other than that we have explored the backstreets filled with colour ... read more

Saturday 03 March We are up at 06.00 as the hotel has a 24 hour check in/out policy.I take my bags down on time but as when I arrived everyone is asleep on the floor. I pay my 500 rups and leave my ruck with the hotel and lady luck. This morning I am off to the Karni Mata temple at Deshnok one of the more unusual temples in India. Its also known as the Rat Temple The Cheran cast of musicians believe that the incarnations of the goddess Dura appear to them one of whom is Karni Mata. As the legend goes one of the followers had a ill son, but by the time KM arrives he had died. KM went to Yama the god of the underworld to ask for him back but Yama ... read more

So it's out of the Cottage Yes Please to head off for the train to Bikaner. I walk for the last time down the bazaar and over to the station. Delhi has more then one station and Paul is at the wrong one. After scanning the info board i realise that I should be at Old Delhi (DLI)station not New Delhi station (NDLS). I go outside to take a taxi or ricky to Old Delhi time is short due to a earlier problem now sorted. The taxi driver asked me when is your train can't tell him that, the price will shoot up and he already wants 450 rups, i will take a bicycle rick I say - the game commences.
