It occurs to me that I haven’t really written anything about my original time in Nasik & Trimbak. Basically I did yoga and a short course in Ayurveda. It was great. There were lots of wonderfully great people. We had great chats, learnt great things and did great things. On our days off we also did great things. I went to lots of temples and saw bathing places, not just our showers, and the Godavari River. I may write more later, there is just so much to write. I gained a certificate, or three, which say I am qualified to teach yoga, to real people, not just myself, all I gotta do is find some real people to teach. Anyway, Maryline and I, save spending 5 extra rupees than it should’ve cost, being indifferent to being ... read more

Nasik is a really friendly place, so is Trimbuk (where the ashram is actually situated).. it's no suprise I want to stay longer. The yoga course is finishing in a couple of days, and the plan is to stay for the ayurveda and then volunteer for a while. Editing the Yoga books. Hmm.. my literary skills are pretty non-existent (can't pull the wool over ur eyes can i?!) But at least it'll be a slight improvement. Or at least it should be, I am english.. There's a lot to help with, whatever it may be. Since uploading my pics on here I've taken a zillion more.. more hindi parties, singing, dancing, temples, baths and more people throwing their children at me for photos (ah, filmed the cutest 5yr old singing mantras at last nights party..sooo ... read more

So here I am in Nashik.....about 170km (6 hours) on a non-airconditioned bus from Mumbai..... The Ashram - Yoga Vidya Dham - is surrounded by such beauty.....mountains that resemble temples and such an expanse of beautiful nature. It's very sacred and spiritual land and you can feel the energy of the place!! The perfect setting to wake up before sunrise and start chanting mantras and meditating before a couple of hours of yoga asanas. After the asana class in the morning, we would have a few lectures then yoga nidra (the best relaxation I think I've ever had.....where you're 'riding the wave' between awake and asleep! It's the nuts!!!). In the afternoon we would have a bit of 'self-study' time where Ky and I would lie on our 'day beds' and try and cool off ... read more

Our 100th Blog Entry!! Nasik (or Nashik) is one of India's most famous holy cities sitting on the banks of the spiritual River Godavari but that's not the main reason why we came. It is a place of common pilgrimage amongst millions of Hindus but that's not why we came. Nasik is home to thousands of temples and colourful bathing Ghats but that's not why we came. No, the reason we came is because Nasik is the home of the pioneers of Indian wine - you may scoff but it's true and we were ready to take a quaff and taste it for ourselves. We'd tried some vino in Bangalore but it's damn expensive at around Rs. 2,000 (abouit 20 quid) for a cheap bottle of imported plonk. Since on average, a decent meal for two, ... read more

2006………6wks-4th CYCLING TRIP-Gujarat & Southern Rajasthan, INDIA........... I put my bike together at the train station with the idea that I would have a pleasant ride into town from the railway station but alas I find that putting FRAGILE on lugagge doesn't mean a lot. Peddalingpete became pissedoffpete when I realised that the main gear sprocket had been bent badly. It was initially unrideable but about 45mins work by good bike mechanics who haven't seen such a bike before got it going but it is a bit cluncky. I'm pretty relieved actually as I thought I might have to go back to Mumbai and leave the bike there & head off without it. It will get me by even though it is only down to 8 gears. That's 8 more than an Indian cycle. I'm sure ... read more

2006………6wks-4th CYCLING TRIP-Gujarat & Southern Rajasthan, INDIA........... Coming to a country that values its cows over some of its people; that has about 1 billion people who don't share a common language in the world's largest democracy; where you need to avoid a cow, donkey, pig, pack of dogs and human excement in the middle of the main street of a major city of over 1mill; and where you can buy 40 malaria tabs for $1 (as against $10.25 for 7 in Australia) etc... well you just gotta laugh. And that's how I started the day off this morning, joining in the 10yr strong laughter group of predominantly older women in saris & joggers on the pavement down under the towering walls of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. Normally they do it in the gardens adjacent ... read more

Im not really in Nashik, I am in transit (destination unknown) and would like to share some thoughts. Ive come to realize a lot about the concept of 'humility'. Humility is much more of a process of realization than it is a finite character or emotion. I think it has a lot to do with understanding yourself in the context of the world - understanding that the things in society that lend you your pride and superiority can really isolate you from the learning experiences of life. When you think about it, there is so much bull that gets in the way of really connecting with ' the other'. We constrict ourselves with strait jackets of pride by building barriers with looks, money, "class", sexuality, gender, nationality, religon, 'education'... its all so ridiculous. Having a post- ... read more
