Well not much to say today, literally! Today is silence day where no one talks in honor of the day the day that Meher Baba stopped speaking and remained silent for the last 44 years of his life. The only sounds are cars, birds and the occasional squeak of my hiccups (they have no reverence the silly things). Yesterday I toured the organic farm and women's cooperative store run by an NGO called Prithvi. It was really incredible. They use cow manure for fertilizer and urine for pesticides. They grow medicinal herbs, coconuts, mangos, papayas, dhal, and other Indian staples. It was really nice to walk around the 6 acre farm and learn about all the details of organic farming. At the women’s coop store I bought grocery bags made from old saris for rs 10 ... read more

Well shortly after my return from the Aurangabad area I decided I did not get the Pune experience that I was looking for so Friday I once again made the 3 hour trek (trek is a little extreme, I was comfortably seated in very the back of an suv) to Pune. This time I went with a girl named Claire, her mother Jane, Renee who initiated the trip because she was getting dental work done, and girl/woman named Sarah who just came from Tanzania where she was volunteering at a hospital and working on a project to care for lepers and prevent a disease (I forget what it is called) that is carried by snails in lake Victoria. Instead of last time shopping being something that was merely done to fill time between Baba adventures, this ... read more

NEW ADVENTURES AWAITED! Soon after I returned from Pune it was off to the Ellora and Ajanta Caves. These are massive collections of Buddhist, Hindu and Jain temples carved right out of the sides of mountains! First we went to Ajanta which has only Buddhist monasteries and temples. These were all carved on the face of one of the cliffs surrounding a beautiful horse shoe ravine. Some dated before christ but often times they were in the AD. It was so incredible, many of the ruins still had the wall paintings thanks to a rule that prohibits flash photography. But also because of that rule all of my pictures inside the temples are very blurry and look like I was swinging the camera round as I took the picture. We hired a guide but all I ... read more

Today was a day of outdoor gaming! After my last post I went back to the Pilgrim Retreat and played volley ball for about 3 hours after lunch. I am absolutely terrible but people tend to let me play anyway which I appreciate. After 2 cups of chai at tea time (LOTS OF SUGAR) I went to the pumpkin house. There we had all sorts of games. First we played red light green light, which didn't work that great because the yard was small and kids left the light green a long time so everyone pretty much dashed all the way up on the very first turn. One boy in particular was a pretty good stop light and would quickly change the lights prolonging the game and getting lots of people out. Then Stella decided it ... read more

Wow, so a lot has happened since my last post. On Wednesday I had my first class with the kids at the Pumpkin house. We drew a picture of a Christmas scene using triangles, circles, squares and rectangles. We even went as far as to draw boot shaped stockings. The kids were really cute and pretty smart. Especially the older kids did a great job and were so eager to please that they would hold up their sheets of paper every time they finished their particular shape. One boy in particular was the most bold and he would proudly hold up his picture with a big toothy grin. He was also the boy who let me in the first time I came to the orphanage. I don't know their names yet but they are all so ... read more

Well today I woke up extremely late 9:00 compared to my usual 5:45 am, and that was even with my normal bed time of 9:00 pm. Hahaha all those fights about curfew and here I am in bed before 10 like an old lady. Well since I did not wake up in time I was not able to see the people who had had eye surgery the day before but Caran, a lady who works at the hospital let me know that 5 people said that they still could not see which was very sad but atleast it went well for 12 people. The doctor who came in was very cocky and quite in love with himself so we are all kind of blaming the failure on him. However I did wake up in time to ... read more

HAHA! I got travel blog to add Meherabad to their lists of locations. Sorry that my entrys are so infrequent but I come the internet cafe everyday but electricity in India is a bit of a variable. It still isnt very hot here and I havent been able to go to the orphanage yet, I will probably start mid this coming week. Today I am working at the hospital helping iwht a free eye surgery clinic. Things are hectic and kinda sad because som people had to go home even after coming all this way. However it has been a really neat experience. Day before yesterday I went into Ahmednagar into the market. It was amazing. There were tiny stalls everywhere with bangles and shoes and yards and yards of cloth. I also saw a cow ... read more
