Yesterday we left Agra by train, a very civilised train laid on for the tourists, and after two hours we arrived at Jhansi where we were met by a driver and suffered a 200 km journey along tracks that over here in India are described as roads. We arrived at Khajuraho with our skeletons just about intact and were rewarded today with a tour of the magnificent Hindu temples which were built between the 9th and 10th centuries and which are classified as a Unesco World Heritage site. We were completely blown away by the sculptures covering the temples: gods and goddesses, beasts and warriors and, if you know anything at all about Khajuraho or the Karma Sutra, you will know that there also the most wonderfully erotic carvings, the like of which one would never ... read more

This blog contains adult themes. If you’re under 18, well ... you know ... this’ll probably be too tame for you anyway so get back to sexting or whatever. There are photos of rock carvings of sexual activities, so if two levels of abstraction aren’t enough to keep you from being offended, skip to the next blog which should be ready in a day or two and is better than this one anyway (albeit longer). (Also note that I've "published" two blogs today, the last one was about four hours ago) It was Christmas morning, I got up early and headed down for the 05:30 a.m. boat trip down the Ganges. It was much similar to the one I’d done in the last blog, in the evening, but there wasn’t much happening. Still, it seemed as ... read more

I am in Khajuraho, a small town famous for its erotic temples! This place was highly recommended to me not because I’m bien tai(perverted) but because the sculptures are truly unique. The old kingdom in Khajuraho had a small population and so they heavily promoted sex so that their society can grow. It eventually grew to a very large kingdom. From what I can tell by the sculptures, it seems they're really enjoying sex! There's so many different poses to learn from... At first I thought these sculptures were going to make me giggle like a little girl but by the end, I developed tremendous respect for the sculptors. Enjoy! To be prejudice I am prejudice. Not the racist type of prejudice but the prejudice where I make false assumptions about somebody before I actually ... read more

Day 5 - Orchha-Khajuraho The following day, we left the lovely hotel in Orchha to begin a 4 hour journey by mini bus to Khajuraho. As a group, we had two buses, and the luggage was stowed on the top of the vehicles. Toilet breaks were either jungle trees, or at the scheduled stop that had been organised. Our hotel in Khajuraho was basic, but clean, with a small balcony, and upon arrival we were asked if we would like to eat at the home of someone Puja knew, who is also a good artist. His home not far from the hotel, and within walking distance. When we arrived we all took off our shoes, and sat around whilst his wife began cooking. There was also another Indian friend of his there who spoke good English ... read more

We set off from Orchha this morning in some private jeeps to undertake a mad cap journey to Khajuraho. Driving in India is always an experience and this was no exception. Although I do have to say that the driving hasn't been anywhere near as scary as I thought it might be. The trip from Orchha to Khajuraho was about 4 hours in the car. We stopped just out of Orchha to visit the Tara Paper factory. This is a project set up by a very generous gentleman who wanted to help the local village women to earn some more money to support their households (as the men were drinking and gambling the money away apparently). The factory takes offcuts of clothing from clothing factories and through a certain process breaks down the fibres in the ... read more

February 27th-March 1st Khajuraho is known I think exclusively for the erotic carvings adorning its many temples. I thought it would be a fascinating thing to see, and I was right. However, I have never felt so hassled as I did in Khajuraho. That, along with some crazy local characters made me impatient to leave! Khajuraho is a pretty small place In Madhya Pradesh, but quite touristy due to the awesome attractive powers of the 25-odd temples. The temples were built by the Chandela dynasty, mostly between AD 950 and 1050. It is unclear why the temples were built in such an isolated and unremarkable location and how such monumental work was carried out. It is also uncertain why the Chandelas chose to embellish their temples with so much sexiness. I was really lucky to arrive ... read more
