Today four of us took a taxi and ventured off to a Lion Safari and an Elephant Rehabilitation Center. This was my first day away from the clinic since arriving in India Jan 5th. That alone was reason for much excitement for me. A very nice and attentive taxi driver picked us up at 9am and off we went through the little towns. On the streets were students walking, men and women carrying heavy loads on their heads, some cattle being walked, many rickshaws, motorcycles and merchants, as well as people peeking out of their homes. Us 4 very white women often get waved at, especially by children who say "Hi! What's your name? Where are you from?" men tend to make less eye contact. We drove by a Dam, not sure what body of water ... read more

Today is the purification day during my panchakarma process, day nine which couldn't be more perfect, as the number 9 symbolizes completion. I let go of all I could muster, am feeling a bit heady after all the purging physically and emotionally. This am I started my day with my yoga practice, massage then steam...my favorite. In the steam I felt overwhelmed with gratitude, wanting to share and dedicate my purification to all women, especially those I know, and love, whom have touched my life, their are so many, even now as I write this more women come to mind, their essence, strength, grace, vulnerability, fortitude, compassion, raw power, courage. To name a few, my Mom and many Mom's in my life, Grandma's and many Grandma's, my Sister and my many Sister's. I have been so ... read more

A lovely friend, whom has come to India several times asked me why I was coming to India, what my intention was. I told her it was...Love. She questioned me on the vastness of that and would I not like something less broad. I think love is enough, not that I will not possibly organically come up with inspirations that lead me into varying experiences. Love it is, as simple and grand as it is. First stop is Rasa Ayurvedic Clinic for Women. I am here for 14 days to strengthen my lungs, panchkarma (cleansing) and rejuvenation. I am in Beautiful Kerala at the southwestern tip near Trivinandrum. We are close to the ocean, which I will visit yet can't see from the clinic. There is a river here that the men bath in. A couple ... read more

India We landed at Trivanthinum Airport in the south of India at 11:15pm, and were met by a relative of the bridal party. Lizzy, the Brides Mother had organised for us to be met at Trivanthinum and driven by chartered Taxi to Thiruvella, about 125KM away. For the uninitiated, that would be a 1 ½ hour drive, but in India country, that drive becomes a 3 to 4 hour drive. We arrived in Thiruvella at 2:15AM, and woke the hotel receptionist guy up when we walked into the office. As it was a late night drive, we had done it in exceptional time. We couldn’t have done it much faster, as the wheels might have fallen off the car, due to the road conditions. In Australia, we can’t drive and talk on a mobile phone at ... read more

Tale Elephant Hills guesthouse je mega. Jogi tak kot se nikdar do sedaj, kopalnica cista, brez komarjev, vse super, pa se za samo 300 rupij na noc (ponavadi takega "standarda" pod 400 ni). Res kul!

Nepricakovan postanek pac ... jebiga. Potem pa: "Your attention please, train number 2626 Kerala Express is running late and will arive to platform 4 at 10.45 minutes. We apologize for the inconveniences." Panika!

First Stop - Trivandrum After a slighty squiffy and emotional afternoon sendoff from Durban airport, eager and anxious in equal measures, we boarded the first of our two flights, to Dubai. Arriving at 5am and not continuing on until 9pm meant that we had plenty of time to be welcomed, entertained, fed & watered, and completely bored by Dubai Airport's endless sparkly corridors of shops, foreign exchange, and overpriced cafes. Flight two and at last India seems possible... 3AM We arrive at a small bustling, dusty airport, and with great relief we retrieve our backpacks from the world's creakiest baggage carousel. A short taxi ride took us to our first hotel in India...A/C, hot water and clean sheets....we have arrived!!! Although somewhat tired and slightly shell-shocked, we launched ourselves straight into explorer mode and set off ... read more

Caught a rickshaw to the zoo ths morning which was a scary experience! I was clinging on for dear life, fun though! The zoo was cool, srt in a nice park area. We saw lots of big cats, hippos, huge monster rhino, deers, a creepy looking hyena, funky porcupines and lots of monkeys and snakes. Entrance fee was only 25rs- bargain. At one point we were the main attraction- a little crowd gathered near us, a couple of them taking photos. Walking back was quite a little jaunt especially as we got lost. It's really hot here and there are very few proper pavements so you end up a big, sweaty, mucky mess wherever you go. Popped into the Indian Coffee House which is in a spiraling building with seats all the way up. We went ... read more

We were up to day at 2.30 after only a couple of hours sleep. We'd already had our bags packed and ready so it didnt tak us long to check out of our hotel room. And then it all went wrong. Managed to flag a taxi and he told us it was on the meter then added it would be extra for tolls, surcharges and after midnight fee. After trying to decipher what this meant it would cost us we eventually just went with it and hoped our 150 ringitts between us would be enough to get to the airport. Thankfully it was, just. What a ripoff but we were happy to be at the airport, or so we thought.... Shortly after arriving we found we were at the wrong terminal, my fault really for not ... read more

We caught a train to Trivandrum - a mammoth 14 hour ride but it was actually not too bad, time went by quickly enough and there was always an endless stream of street vendors jumping on board with chai, pakoras and curries. Our reason for heading here was to catch up with our friends Ross and Nikki who came to India for their honeymoon. Spending a day at their gorgeous resort sounded much better than a day in the shade at the zoo which is the best we could come up with, so we crashed their romantic time together for the day. Arriving at this beautiful resort looking worse for wear, suffering badly in the heat, with our oily looking faces and wet clothes, surprisingly did not draw too much attention at security. The Taj Green ... read more
