We often visit Coimbatore. The trip would be for two or more days. We always spare a day for visiting places every time. But, from Coimbatore we visit places like Kovai kuttralam or Isha Yoga or of course Ooty. Getting very much familiar with these places we wanted to see some different place this time. So, when we reached Coimbatore recently and asked our driver to suggest some different place, the suggestion from driver was Nelliampathy, which was in Kerala. Nelliyampathy- a rarely known paradise near Palakkad. Located at 106 km from Coimbatore and 52 km from Palakkad, this place is very much famous among locals and is crowded during holidays. It’s a hill station where tea and coffee plantations are done in wide range. We went to Nelliyampathy and were pleased visiting this place. It ... read more

Aber dafuer werde ... read more

I wasn’t looking forward to two days of heavy bus travel—but it was another great adventure. Our journey took us through Bandipur National Park. Animals are protected here. We saw Spotted Deer and Langur Monkeys. The wine coloured Malibar Giant Squirrels chased each other from tree limb to tree limb. We saw farmers spreading grain across the road so that our bus would roll over it. It breaks up the grain for the farmers and brings us good bus karma. We climbed until reaching 2300 feet above sea level. We stopped at a plantation for lunch and a tour. The region has the right conditions for coffee, pepper, tea, cardamom, vanilla, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, tumerac, rice, bananas, rubber, and betel nut. The biggest threat? Elephants. They roam wild in this region, although we didn’t see ... read more

I went for a wild trekk in Nelliyampathy rainforests about 54 kms south of Palakkad City in the south western state of Kerala, India. It is a very popular hill station famous for its tea and coffee plantations and excellent weather conditions. It's called as the 'Poor man's Ooty'. It took me almost one hour and a half to get there from Hotel Indraprasta (an excellent hotel) in Palakkad, where I stayed overnight. On the way we passed the town of 'Nemmara, and 'Pothundi Dam', a small irrigation dam which provides water for the rice fields in the surrounding area. After 23 hair-pin bends and really exciting uphill climb I reached my base at Nelliampathy where I had lunch and a change of vehicles as the terrain was really rough for the next phase of my ... read more

Praveen aimed the D100 as soon as he spotted the wild boars, big sturdy ones and small shy ones, grazing on the wayside. He has not come across such a large sounder of boars in his years as a wildlife photographer. Tiny eyes above fatal tusks watched the intruders uneasily. As Praveen moved the car forward for a better view, tiny boars ran to their parents. Slowly the sounder vanished behind the undergrowth. The first creature to greet us inside Top Slip sanctuary was a common langur. Peacocks, eagles and bonnet macaques followed before we reached the entrance to Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary. This forest division of Kerala can be accessed only through the forestland in Tamil Nadu. After two check posts put up by Tamil Nadu and one by Kerala, we enter the 285-sq kilometre forest ... read more
