'God's own Country' is no exaggeration for the beauty of Kerala.. Every time you go there, you are always mesmerized by the Nature.. the greenery, fresh air, culture, sea, backwaters .. and every place in Kerala is special in its own way. This time, we headed towards Munnar and Alleppey.. for the 4 days Diwali vacation.. You cover the first 400km in just 5 hours from Bangalore, and the last 100km takes close to 4 hours again .. but the last 100km is surprisingly what you will always want to return to! Waterfalls, lush green tea estates, mountains, valleys, fresh air and a light drizzle which makes the drive even more beautiful! We have seen Munnar on screen and the kids were waiting to see where Shah Rukh uncle's jeep landed in Chennai Express, but were ... read more

The Eravikulam National Park (Rajamalai) is major tourist attractions in Munnar. In my childhood days I visited there a few times. Then during my grown up years it was often a journey with friends especially during summer breaks. Recently I visited with my wife and kids and caught some glimpses from the area including mountains, rocks and of course Nilgiri Tahrs. Here are my experiences from our trekking to our visit to Eravikulam National Park (Rajamalai), for sure, you will enjoy reading and then may be visiting too. The Eravikulam National Park is a major tourist site located approximately 13 Km from Munnar town in Udumalpet road (SH17). A small part of the park called Rajamalai is open for tourists. There are several mountains in the park filled with birds, bees, butterflies and animals. Endangered "Nilgiri ... read more

We have had the last few days (Friday to Monday) off for a long weekend. Tracey and I decided to fly down to Kerala, the state south of Karnataka where Bangalore is located. Parts of Kerala have been described as god’s country, and I can most certainly see where that comes from. Deciding to stay up in the mountains, amongst the tea and spice plantations was a great ideas. It is about 120km east of the coat, a 3 hour drive given the state of the roads. It is absolutely stunning up here! So quiet and peaceful. Yesterday we visited Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary (about 60km, or a 2.5 hour drive from where we are staying), and went for a two hour trek with a local guide. We saw a bison, some deer, and two elephants! I ... read more

Glimpses of Kerala – 5: Munnar Munnar is a hill station in Kerala, at about 1500 mts, located close to Tamilnadu in the Western Ghats. It is a beautiful, picturesque place with sprawling tea gardens all around, a number of large water bodies and waterfalls. Like most of the hill stations, it also shows unplanned haphazard growth and poor maintenance. Climate is excellent all through the year. Most hotels do not have even fans. In November, fans were certainly not required. Like almost all tourist spots in India during Diwali festivals, Munnar was also full of Gujaratis, easily identified by their loud behavior. We reached Munnar (from Thekkady – 4 hrs) around noon on Day-6 of our tour and we were to leave after breakfast on Day-8. Effectively, 1½ days. Just about enough to see all ... read more

Munnar It took about 4 hours to drive to Munnar including the shop for a drink/loo break. The journey was quite interesting, lots of amazing looking houses very modern and then small Indian shanty towns. the vegetation was tropical with banana trees, eucalyptus, and coconut palms. Then the tree plantations started as we climbed the hills, we turned off the road before we got to the town to go to the Blackberry Hills resort. It is on a steep side of the hill surrounded by tea plantations, trees plants and birds. It's an Eco friendly resort and we had a garden bungalow overlooking the valley. We unpacked, had lunch in the very reasonable restaurant and then read. A real lazy day and so good to be out of the town and noise. All we could hear ... read more

So glad to be back in Kerala and especially in the hills where the air is cool and clear. The noise is still around but we are noticing it less, it's amazing what you can get used to. Hours and hours of driving, 30kms an hour when things go well, risking our lives at every turn of the road as the local buses plough through the tiny villages honking as they go at a ridiculous speed...colourful trucks overladen with anything that needs taking from a to b and then,of course...beware of the cows in the middle of the road. This is India...but the scenery is breathtaking and the beautiful women intheir magnificent colours plucking the tea leaves or carrying wood on their heads.Incedible India... read more

Hello.... So, nearly theree weeks here in India. Still don't know how I feel about this country, let's just say it is nothing like Sweden... Things take time here, sometime it works sometime not but there is never any problems. I think it is good to travel here without any time preassure :-) All the people have been very friendly, they are of course a bit puzzled about my looks... Is Sweden part of Northern India? or did you say Switzerland?? It still does not make sense. Klar himmel, overallt annars har ... read more

After Gokarna we (still travelling with Louisa from Hampi) travelled down to Kerala by train. This involved travelling 32km by bus to the town of Kumta to catch the 00;45am train (which arrived 01:45am). Getting to Kumta was alright; physically catching the train however was somewhat exciting! After being told, platform 1 #5 for our carriage we dutifully waited there...only to watch the sleeper carriages speed past us right to the other end of the platform (trains can be up to 3/4 mile long in India). The train only stops on the platform for about 2 mins (small town) so we had to leg it up to the sleeper carriages! We couldn't get on the train where we were because you cant walk through the cooking carriage, which was between the sleeper carriages and the carriages ... read more
