Got up mega early again argh and whizzed off into Periyar National Park for a boat cruise, which is apparently one of the best ways to see animals in the park. I wasn't convinced it would be worth getting up early again, but I was proved wrong!
We got to see an amazing array of birds including giant hornbills
soaring gracefully over the jungle canopy and a ridiculous amount of the brilliant bright blue kingfishers that I've been lucky enough to see so many
of on this trip. We also saw Bison crossing the lake and a gaint stag deer who looked up at us nonchantly. No elephants sadly. After coming ashore saw
loads more monkeys with babies, awwwwwww!
Went back to Mickey's and back to sleep for a while! After lunch my new best friend Bobby and I went around the Tribal Village to see what village life was like. I liked the ambience, but not the mosquitos!!!!
After the village Bobby suggested we went to the Spice Gardens, I was having so much fun I decided to go despite the fact I had no interest in it! It
actually turned out to be brilliant fun. Bobby
was an excellent guide explaining very patiently about all the spices and testing me on whether I could
tell the difference between a whole range of spices. I haven't laughed so much in ages 😊
In the evening Bobby and I went out for dinner and he told me all about his family life in India and explained the caste system to me - something I
still can't get my head around! We also went to a bar which was fun, strangely similar to a dingy London pub, we sat in a booth with swinging wooden doors, felt a bit like being in an old style western movie!
If you'e ever heading to Kumily then I reccomend you stay either at Mickey's (a real home from home) http://www.mickeyhomestay.com/ or at Bobby's place Blue Mangoes, which is just next door.
