Well we seem to be getting use to this beach living stuff! Having trouble pulling ourselves away. After almost a week in Varkala we headed to the southern most point on the continent - Cape Cormorin, stopping along the way at one of the larger Hindu temples. I think it was the first one we were allowed to go in as usually they do not allow non Hindus entry. It was huge with lots of alleyways and many many statues and temples inside. They were preparing for a festival so there were alot of pilgrims and many statues for the parade. It was fascinating. We then found a great beach cottage - Wild Palms at the Sea, along a coconut lined secluded beach. It was set among rural Kerala that did not look as though it ... read more

Hi, One of the 'must' in Kerala state is sailing in the backwater. The backwater is a natural net of canals connected to the Arabian sea. All around are coco trees, bananas trees and other plantations. Of course, small villages all around. There are all sorts of tours (it is very touristic), I did the 'villages tour' for whole day when you sail and stop once in a while to watch some methods of making a living. It seems that the natives exploit all available resources. For example, in addition of selling the coco nuts they also make ropes from the coco nuts hair. Another example, they make cement from shells, etc. Nothing more interesting to tell, so enjoy watching the pictures! Bye, Sharon ... read more

As we had already taken in enough positive energy, we decided to start using it up. We left quite early from Varkala because we intended to take a boat in Kollam (former Quillon) at 10:30 a.m. Our first means of transport was the train, late as usual. At the train station we met Annie and Stuart, a couple from Britain who were in the middle of a trip similar to ours. They have also quit their jobs to travel around the world for two years - with interruptions. It was interesting to hear them talk about China and Tibet, future destinations of ours. The trip by train did not last very long, and as soon as we had arrived in Kollam, we took an auto-rickshaw to the jetty. Everything had worked smoothly so far, we had ... read more
