Arthunkal is the location of the family home of my father in law, Peter Mathen. He was one of 11 siblings and his family has a large presence in the area. They are some of the warmest, kindest people I have ever met. His father built one home on the property over 40 years ago and 5 years ago one of the brothers added another home. The village is set in a beautiful tropical environment with trees bearing every type of fruit you can think of. It's Western border is the Arabian Sea. Preetha and I were married June 20, 2009. The main purpose of our trip to India was to have a reception where we could be introduced to family and friends in India as a married couple. We thought our experience of getting married on the beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico was amazing....this was equally great. I will never forget the intensity of walking out of the old family home to a huge crowd of people I've never met before but who were there to show their support. The Hindu drummers made for an unbelievable walk to the reception at the new home. There was so much history, so much culture, so much love and acceptance.
