4:25 a.m. Happy Haloween. Our flight landed about two hours ago. The Airports was an interesting experience. The airport is somewhat dated and I can not tell what it use to be. Looks more like an Airport hangar that doubles for an airport. Lots of people standing outside the airport and lots of government police. Oddly, some white guy asked me if my name was Anthony Wilson... Strange cause I have a nephew by that name. I am getting tired now. Diane and I had a "finally we are here" cocktail before I cam upstairs. I better complete this before the power goes out again. I was sitting here blogging earlier and the power just went out in the building. Not the ones around us. Our "guesthouse" buts up against the HP headquarters here. The lights ... read more

While in India, I will have a car and driver as they highly recommend that westerners not drive here for several reasons. First, there are no traffic rules. If you can fit, you can go there. You can pull a u-turn in the middle of rush hour. You can cut off 7 people riding on a bike. You can make a right on red (or left). I only saw one accident when I was there, but they dont have a lot of traffic police like we do in the US. It was crazy to see how many people can fit on a motorcycle. I managed to get a few pictures of 4 and five people on a motorcycle at a time. ... read more

The cool thing about being in India and working US hours is that there are no restaurants or fast food open at the end of my day (usually 4-5 am), so I am "forced" to order room service every night. The time change effects everyone differently. Some people adjust and eat their meals at the same time as in the US (ie morning=breakfast, evening=dinner). For me, I was used to eating dinner at the end of a workday, so I would usually be eating dinner-type foods at 6 or 7 AM. My hotel caters to westerners, so my staple end of day meal included tomato and mozzarella w/ balsamic dressing, a chicken & fried egg club, iced tea and coconut ice cream. It was the one time per day when I knew I could eat something ... read more

I will be working US (eastern) hours during this trip, so if I sacrifice some sleep, I will be able to take advantage of seeing the city during the day while working at night. On my first day in Bangalore, I asked my driver to take me to the heart of the city. This photo is of Brigade Rd. The road is about 3 blocks and lined with store fronts, eateries (both local and western) and peddlers.... read more

I had been told that many westerners can feel claustrophobic upon arrival in India due to the shear concentration of people in the city. I found this to be true. Upon arrival, I was innundated with offers to carry luggage, exchange currency and purchase souvenirs.... read more

So, we are safely ensconced in our new apartment -that came with a service person, who we kindly asked to not work 16 hour shifts, and who is now outside our front door cleaning everything outside. I don't think he feels its ok to leave. There's only two of us we dont need all this service -he also sleeps on the kitchen floor! I agreed to abide by all these different traditions, -not using your left hand to handle food or anything clean, not showing the soles of my feet, covering my legs and arms, not being loud about really liking steak!! But there are some things here that are just so different -I feel like I'm in some slap stick comedy at the best of times! I made him a cup of coffee too ( ... read more

Flies in India are dumb. They have not evolved here to become the finely tuned machines of hateful annoyance like their cousins in Australia. My current S.R. (Strike Rate) is 96.7%. Indian mozzies on the other hand are evil bastards. They are disease ridden, silent, and very, very quick. A single mozzie will take you around 15-20 minutes to kill. I have given up and just started eating anti-malarials like candy.... read more
