This will be quick. The past week has been such a treat in Kashmir. I'm really loving the family and life here. It's a pretty mellow/simple lifestyle. Most of it has to do with it being Ramadan right now. I said earlier that the sight of food was starting to make me sick...and indeed it has! Last week we got a new visitor from Japan, Tajma. He is really sweet but a little shy. We spent his first day touring the Mughal gardens. What a sight! We were able to see over all of Srinagar and the Dal lake. That night I started to get one of my famous migranes and as soon as my dinner was sat in front of me, I had to run to the bathroom. One of the uncles chased me and ... read more

I LOVE SRINAGAR! After I left the office on Sunday afternoon, I was whisked away to the Delhi airport. I found my airline quickly and a nice young man quickly started conversation with me. When I told him I was going to Srinagar, he told me it was his home and he was happy I was going to see it. My friend's name is Abrar. He was such a help to me and lead me through the crazy airport security (without him I would have been completely lost!) He is a student too and will be going to the UK soon to study vet medicine. Getting on the plane we took a shuttle and he made sure that we would sit next to each other on the plane. We talked about pashmina, family, school, friends, and ... read more

As you've probably already guessed, the saga with Bob continued. After the bus arrived in kargil and I met Claudio at the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Tourist Bungalow, we drove down to the mechanics to see what the verdict was. It wasn't so good.......not terminal, but not good. He thought the crank pin and connecting rod had broken and needed replacing. Worse still, he couldn't fix it and recommended I go to a place in Srinigar to have it done......JK motors. That meant another truck ride for Bob and another bus for me, unless I decided to go on the truck with Bob. The mechanic was trying to be helpful by organising a truck for us that night. He found one, with about 6 Kashmiri guys on board......all openly staring at me. Needless to say, there ... read more

Well where do we start, we landed in india fine and the flights were acceptable... unfortunalty there had been some kind of mix up and i didn't get my extra leg room.. we ended up with the seats behind.. almost mockingly!!! But apart from that, a flight is a flight so can't complain. We got to delhi and pretty much within 3/4 hours of landing had managed to get our selves booked on yet another flight up to Kashmir to stay on house boats for a few days and potentially go trekking in the himalayan mountains...which, i'm sure as you can guess from the title is exactly what we did. AMAZING I don't think either of us have ever seen scenery like it, if i get time once i have finished typing i'll try and post ... read more

Oh yes i do actually, it is the spelling misake of the previous entry. 'Survived' not servied LOL Seriously though the past 10 days have been the most intense of my life. I have felt like i have been on a constant period, i know that will affend you ladies but tough - My emotions have ranged from being very happy to being completely relaxed and content all the way through to anger, loniness and probably the most depressed i have ever been when a female of the species has not been involved and let me tell you, that much change is VERY tiring!! Here we go, this could be a long one as bare with me as there will be some personal comments towards the end. As you all know i have been out of ... read more

Hello from India!! So far Helen and I are having a fantastic time. India is such a huge country, we are only touching the tip of the Iceberg in 4 weeks. I can't believe it has only been 2 weeks since we left the UK, it feels more like 2 months! So we arrived in Delhi 2 weeks ago and spent 1 night there. This isn't because we desperately wanted to leave but we were kind of sucked in to doing a flight/5 night package by a Delhi tour operator. Appearantly not the thing to do as, with the benefit of hindsight, we could have done it much cheaper ourselves - but you live and learn!! The 1 day we spent in Delhi was pretty crazy and tiring as we were jetlagged - it is smelly, ... read more

This is the quote that convinced us to start our trip up in the state of Kashmir. It seemed like every single person in New Delhi could only dream of making a trip up to their so called paradise. After a day of +42 C while bombing around a dirty, smelly, polluted, mass of human existence also known as Delhi... this so called paradise to the north sounded pretty good. So off to Kashmir it was by plane, but not before getting the famous "Delhi Belly" (food poisoning) within the first 24 hours of arriving to India. Let’s set the story straight. Kashmir gets some pretty bad press from the western world. Granted, in the past, there was some truth behind the matter. Today though, relations between India and Pakistan are the best they have been ... read more

Hello everyone! Well what do we have to tell you? Quite a lot really. India has been an experience to say the least! We began our long journey from Pokhara on the morning of the 27th, getting the early bus at 6.30am. The mountains came out one last time so we could get a last look - lovely! The bus journey was eventful! We got about 2 hours down the road and broke down - still not really sure why but it was something to do with the tyres. We stopped for around 45 mins before they fixed it, only to stop again around 1pm as something was wrong again. It was getting quite hot by then but we stayed on the bus thinking it wouldn't take too long. We were just reading when Phil suddenly ... read more
