To escape from Siliguri required Tatkal (last minute, held-in-check) train tickets that can only be purchased the day before departure. These always go on sale at 10 a.m., although the wise (desperate) start queuing well before 7 a.m. We arrived at a little after six and were still not the first in line. At around 8.30 a.m. officials began compiling lists for order-of-service at each of the three ... Read Full Entry

LADAKH
Ladakh was at the top of our wish list for years, but due to the narrow opening in its summer to get there, we got absorbed in other exotic locales. Reading your luscious words and absorbing your out of world pics...gotta say Ladakh beckons some more. Maybe when the poles flip...maybe before...I hear it calling...

Fabulous blog and adventures!
Your photos and prose are tempting and mouth-watering, and your adventures inspiring! Fab blog! You\'ve convinced me I must get to India and Ladakh in particular. A friend with land there thought it too dangerous to return. I\'ll share your blog and encourage him to return. Thanks so much! Julley, Tara

A good question...
Unfortunately I really don't know for sure... Judging by the light i'd say early morning, but i'd be guessing. We spent so much time trekking/busing at both times that it could have been either. That said Ladakh is blessed with a multitude of such rock-scapes; seriously they are everywhere. There are also snow leopards in those parts. We're considering returning for a "lock-in" (as determined by the snow) for three months as then they are an everyday sight... Truly spectacular country and extremely nice people too.

Love this...love Tibet. How privileged to have been to the Kingdom of the Roof of the World. I have been to a number that claim this name but there is only one known as Tibet. Love this photo!
